Title: Damn Front brakes
Post by: dac on February 06, 2010, 09:03:58 PM
So I took a closer look at my front brakes because I knew I had a bit of grease on the inside pad, nothing major.  Turns out the brake material is starting to separate from the backing plates.  Haw bad is it?  It's maybe cracked an inch on the outside pads and 2 or a bit better on the inside ones.

Then I figured I'd take the rotors off just in case I needed to replace the pads.  I'd get them turned but they won't budge.  Is there a trick to getting them off the hubs?  Tried a dead blow and a bit of penitrating oil through the studs but I'm thinking there must be a better trick.

Strike it with a block of wood n a hammer between the studs.
If that doesn't work lower it carefully onto a block of wood very slightly until it pops.

Thanks for the offer Charlie.  Got them off this morning using a bfh and a block of wood and a dead blow.

Now to decide which kind of pads to get to help it stop better.
