Title: Olympics
Post by: Waytec on February 12, 2010, 02:19:14 PM
The opening ceremony is tonight. I am going to be watching.
A Georgian luger died today after he came off the track and hit a pole. He was clocked at 144.3km/h
I have read that this Olympics has some of the fastest and steepest tracks.

I head rumors the bob sleaders have been caught off guard by the wild life close to the track.  Could you imagine rounding a corner and seeing a bear peek over the end of the track, just a bit of pucker factor  :o  I don't know if it's true or not, but interesting.

The video footage is of his run in HD. i wished i NEVER watched it.
Fair warning...Very graphic.

No it's still there, extremely nasty, and very sad way to start the games. :'(

Nice to see the athletes get a standing ovation when they entered tonight, and to hear that they are staying to compete.  They're dedicating it to their fallen luger.

Not a bear, but one of the skiers came around a corner the other day and a lynx popped out of the bush.

there was the bobcat, but there also was a bear on the bobsled/luge/skeleton course as a luger was coming down.
He said he felt like a salmon heading up river with the bear ready to swipe him out of the track.lol.

i liked the opening ceremonies.
There is a thread on Pirate in chitchat.

I am not that into the winter olympics at all, I have watched a bit of the timed speed skating and will always watch a few full runs of skiing, S, GS, DH.
Never watched any of the summer olympics  when that rolls around.
I know when the flame rolled through Calgary I could have stopped on 9ave by Staples with the crowd and watched it, but didnt.
I have fond memories of the 1988 olympics, I was a part of that at Nakiska because I skied for that hill we moved from Lyon Mountain. If you remember Lyon Mountain congrats. We were there for the change-over then moved from the mole to a real mountain. Paskapoo remember that one.

You worked at   Nakiska my arse  in 88 ?    ,   I worked there from 87  to   95  full time year round . The games were an awesome experience leaving me with life long memories .   This time around  , for the Vancouver games  the opening ceremonies were great , made me proud to be a Canadian .

Canada is looking to score big in the medals this time.

So we may be 3rd in total medals but we are first in Gold medals. 13.
that is tied with a couple other country's for most gold in the winter games. if the men's hockey win that will break the record for most golds.

I believe only  Russia ever got 13 golds twice during the seventies, 14 would be a new record . We do own the podium !   GO  CANADA GO !

Man, i love the Winter Olympics. Some of the toughest and fastest courses EVER in Winter Olympics were here at the CANADIAN olympics.
ALL Sliding courses, Downhill, Super G, some XC events(weather), Aerials/Snowboard,Slalom>>>>FOG :o

i love the skicross and boardercross as well which were also the TUFFEST courses in Olympic history.

I love how one corner at the sliding center got nicknamed 50/50 because that's your odds of making it. then they nicknamed a portion of one of the down hills the same.
I don't know if any world records where broke this Olympics but do like that they challenged the athletes to be their best.
