Title: ford 9 inch axle shaft
Post by: 2grand4u on February 20, 2010, 03:35:56 PM
i was wondering if you could pay to have them redrilled to a different bolt patter or is this a bad idea? looking to get drilled to 5 on 4.5 so i don't need to run spacers to adapt them

I assume that you're wanting to go from 5 on 5.5" to 5 on 4.5". If that's the case, then so long as there's no interference, then I don't see any problem. Most people run into problems when they want to go the other way as the studs will wind up too close to the edges of the flange.

Anyone with a good hand, or a decend drill press should be able to do it for you using a wheel stud template and a good bit...

we did this on an 8.8 Ryan. i think it can be done with the 9" axles too.
we brought them to Humphries or something (right by Modern) and they machined the inside lip down on the axle shaft so the new studs would clear.  give em a call.  can't remember the cost though bud.

or if you're good with a drillpress try it. ;)
