Just thought I would let everyone know,
the michelin and BFG sale is ending on sunday.
michelins are 17.50 off a tire and bfg's are 10.
starting on monday(march 1)
bridgestone is going on sale(until some time in april)
18.75 off a tire.
keep in mind our prices are very hard to beat for the tires we carry, and bridgestone has been very aggressive in the tire pricing.
bridgestones are not on the website for some reason. but you will likely not be disappointed by the prices.
the price we sell them for has made a few shops that I know of stop selling them as they can not compete with the prices.
I also expect michelin to drop prices soon on the michelins and BFG's.
no mud terrains in the bridgestones, but the revo 2 is available and from what I have heard it is a very nice AT tire.
it will be hard to find better bridgestone prices I think.
and it is not only truck tires, but on all tires.
have a nice day!
steve

thanks for the headsup

Check the tire tread depth. My Kat tire rep said he went in there and compared the tires against what he sells. He reported that many of the tires are made specially for Costco and had less tread depth or different speed ratings etc and aren't quite the same as what you get at a tire store.
-
BINGO.
You'll notice that the cranking amps on Optima when they have them in are different sometimes as well.
Not all product are created equal, especially when you have massive chain stores coming up with thier own deals with manufacturers.
Shop smart. ;)
-
Same would go for Walmart Good Years that I am sure has caused quite a stir

Shop S - Mart!

You got that?

This is actually wrong sir.
they are the exact same tires(if the tires are supposed to be the same, they are the same)
the bfg km2 are bfg km2's.
there is not a difference at all.
now some of the tires are made specifically for us, the x-radial(sister to the destiny and harmony)
we will also get the x-radial LT exclusively at costco from what I hear(very close to the ltx m/s) but we will have the main tires that are the same.
so if it looks like it is the same, it is.
don't get caught up in that bull and think that they are not good because we get better deals than so many others.
I have heard this many times from people saying X tire shop said that they were seconds, or blems, of what have you just so they can try and sell the same tire for more.
I can asure you they are pulled from the same stock as every other tire store.

I figured as much.
I have a costco membership, well, I dont think it has expired, however when I went in and asked about tires, I was told I could only purchase the same size as the door sticker indicated. Could I get a set of 33x12.5x15 KM2's from Costco? I am up in fort mac right now, so if you wouldnt mind shooting me a price that would be great. I can provide you with my member ID if you need it. If you send prices, can you send them before any discount?
I would get excited if you could get Toyos, but I can get them from Direct Buy too.
just a sec, I re-read the thread, and I am making the assumption you work there...do you?

There is no denying the batteries (optima) are not the same.
Tires, well, let's see some proof.
get a picture of your depth guage in a BFG KM2 with the load range showing.

not handy no, I do have a set of km2's in a 31 at work.
I will have a look when I work on sunday
don't know if I can get the tread depth and the load range in the same picture though.
as for teh optima's, I know they do make different sizes with different cranking amps and so on.
but I think they should be the same for the same group size(this one I am not sure of, but what costco sells is usually the same, if not better than other places with most everything(or at least they try to make it that way))
I might try to make a few calls to check on the batteries though.

I do work there, check costco.ca too, you can order by size I think now, no toyo's though.(I just checked the site, adn that size does not come up)
some limitations on sizes we can mount, but if you have them on there now, and some other things work out, you should be ok.
don't rub, hold enough weight, etc.

The conversation I had with the Kal tire tire rep was about 5-6years ago and the tires in question that he checked were BFG ATs, Yokohama Super Diggers and some performance tires that I don't recall. I talked with him directly and he said he measured them himself. Now he was a sales guy but he always treated us fairly and I've never had occasion to question his word before.
I too have had the inferior quality Optima battieries from Costco and wonder why a company would sell their product that way. The Optima name took a big hit from those batteries....
-
Unfortunately, money talks when bulk purchases are made from the major chain stores. Manufactures are williing to take a blemish to thier name when they get an order of that magnitude. If they can sell 100,000 batteries to just one chain and that chain distributes them across the world, they still have that major sale.
We've been members of Costco for over 20 years I bet, and will continue to shop there but you have to be aware. We've even noticed canned food for instance being cheaper, but when you compare the can to others, they have a taper or smaller can in general and carry less volume. Costco isn't the only store with these tactics. They all have them.
-
I dont have a membership to costco but want to get one sooner or later.
Its good to know this information so I can keep an eye open for it when I make purchases.
-

When I bought 31" MT's at costco I kindof went through the same thing. But it isnt that you cannot buy them, cause that would make no sense...it's that they will not mount a tire that is a certain % bigger than the OEM recommended size. I bought them there and mounted them elsewhere.

When I had my supercrew I had 20's on it with 305/55's. Stock rim in that year was an 18" with 275/65's or something. I said, how much, she said, no. Being it didnt even show a 20" tire as OEM she didnt want anything to do with it. It is the only time I ever asked....but it makes sense to buy there and install elsewhere...

Here's some pics I have. Now they aren't quite apples to apples. The first pictures are of my spare tire that just got rotated in with my 4 new Costco tires. It has less than 500km on it. It was from a shop called Fast Tire here in Lethbridge and is about 7 years old. The other pictures are of my Costco tires I got this last summer and have approx 3000-4000 km on them. Both tires are BFG AT KO's.

Overview:
So the sidewall and tread is the same, but the new Costco tires also have 2 nylon tread. That may be true with the BFG boughten elsewhere in 2009
The tread depth on the 500km tire has just shy of 13mm while the 3000-4000km tires has right about 12mm
Both tires are Load Range C, but the Costco tire is 20lbs higher at 2620lbs vs 2600lbs on the older tire.
I would imagine the only difference between the tires is the age. Ones boughten elsewhere in the summer of 2009 would likely be identical.

from one of my other posts
many things have changed
especially for smaller suv's and trucks that do not require LR E tires.
and you can get mud terrains, higher load indexes are ok, speed ratings on the big wheeling jeep are not usually a problem(unless you started with the srt8 maybe), and we can go to bigger sizes.
Costco has had some policy changes that make buying bigger tires for jeeps much easier.
their are some restrictions
1. they can't rub(at least while on flat ground, hard lock to hard lock, or be very very close to rubbing)
if they do rub with articulation, the tires are yours anyway, which most people are good with, and will mod the jeep to get them not to.
2. we have to be able to inflate to the placecard air pressure(even if you would actually run a little higher or lower)
3. the tires have to be able to hold the same if not more weight than the stock tires.
4.they can not be too wide or narrow for the rim.
costco can usually get companies to make products specifically for them, but they will usually be better(that is what they try for)
I will call on the battery thing though.
I know all our batteries are from johnson controls or something like that.
I will try to call on that on monday when the buyers are in.
but I just got this back from the people at optima batteries
"Hello Steven
An Optima sold at Costco is the same product that could be purchased at any other retail location. Their inventory may vary depending on what group sizes they carry but the overall product is the same.
Thank you,
Adam

a 31x10.5r15 has 19/32 of tread.
my phone would not pick up the measurement.
but it was the same as the book said it should be

bfg at ko are 16 or 16.5 to the 32nd, my eyes are going cant stay straight going across the line.
That is for bfg so other makes are probably different
-
sorry, that was for the bfg KM2, not the ATKO. I did not specify, but I had referred to the KM2's in an earlier post.
-
hey Steve we'll proably be comin in for some 31s for the girlfriends TJ tomorow. Bridgestone Dualler ATs 695s.
can you hook us up ;)
-
I don't have them in stock.
if they are available, we can usually get them in in a week.
best thing to do is just drop by and order them.
does it have 31's on it now?
just want to make sure they will fit without rubbing(that means we could not put them on, which is no fun.

sales guy said it'd be no problem to mount em up on a stock TJ....................
-
might fit, I don't know TJ's very well.
I tried a 2000 ish that came with 30's, and the 31's rubbed the front sway bar, and by rub I mean the bar sat in between the tread blocks.
if the steering stops are adjusted enough, it should not be a big problem.
some rubbing should be expected when going bigger(mainly at full travel)
i guess I don't really have to tell you any of this as you would be one who would know,
but I have to give the blurb.
-
How about some 285/70/17 Dueller Revos. Price and availability
Thanks
