Title: 2000 TJ seems to govern out at 3000 rpm
Post by: Mudpig97 on March 06, 2010, 05:37:33 PM
drives ok till 3000rpm then "governs out"?   Let off throttle till tach is under 3 and its ok again.  Any ideas?  My kid said it used to do that at 5000rpm( Y hes running that high I don't know) now its down to 3000.

ive seen plugged cat. cons. that can do this. pretty much the engine will run and idle fine, even rev up well with no load. but once there is a load on the engine it just bogs down and is gutless at mid to upper rpms.  last i saw this problem on was a viper. nothing worse then road testing a viper and getting passed by a mini-van.

only time i saw this was with a bad connection to the speedo at the transfer case.  my speedo would bounce around and max revs were limited to 3000.  so it could be considered a limp mode.

Its got no cat/con.  Figured it out, trailjammmer chip is screwed.  Pulled the chip, runs fine stock.

i dont mean to be an arse, but next time you have a tech question you might want to mention that your engine has a chip. that would help much. glad you found the problem. now ditch the chip and add a turbo...  ;)
