Anyone driven the new 4 popper and been able to compare it to the old 2.5? What's your opinion?
Also, does anyone have the specs on the engine? Like Bore/stroke, intake and exhaust valve timing? Lift and duration? and comp. ratio? (also, does anyone know how many valves per cyl it is?) All I know is it's something like 150 HP and DOHC.......any more tech info and opinions/experiences would be awesome!!! Thanks!

Its a Chrysler engine and I believe it was the same engine as what was used in the neon's.

ACK! he said "neon".

I have a 2.5 and have had the opportunity to drive a 2.4 on a few occasions. If you want 4cyl go with the 2.4. way peppy'er and seems to be able to hold highway speed better (I swapped my 31's from my 2.5 onto the 2.4 for the trip so it was a great comparison).

already said this in the other topice but,,,,,,
they should put the 230 hp version of the 2.4in the tj ,,
turbo jeeps would be cool
get the stage 3 from dodge ,,,and you could have a 355 hp 4 banger jeep

neons and sx 2.0's had 2 liter motors

I bought an'05 2.4L and I'm very impressed with it. Going around town, I don't really notice a difference from my old 4L. Definately cheaper on gas. The highway is where you'll notice the difference.... but it's way better than the old 2.5L. This engine and the new 6 speed tranny works great togeather. It's not that hard to keep up to 110, unless you got a good headwind, or if you are towing........I'd place the 2.4L in the middle of a 4L and 2.5L as far as power goes.... if not closer to the feel of a 4L....
I'm also told that intake upgrades will provide more of a benifit to a 2.4L than a 4L, but I haven't really looked into that yet..... Plus I believe it's the same block as used in alot of Chrysler cars, so it wouldn't be too much work to hook up a turbo :P
Dragonmaster, I was thinking of getting 31" for my Jeep.... how much of a difference is that in the 2.4L going from stock tires?

Hardly noticeable IMO.

that;s a cool website!
thanks for the info, but no one has the valve lift/duration and timing? it was in the factory manual for my 2,5, was hoping someone could pull it up for the 2.4 in the specification section......
thanks!
