Title: How do I find out if a travel trailer has been stolen?
Post by: 1988 Cherokee on March 17, 2010, 10:57:52 AM
How do I find out if a travel trailer has been stolen?

I talked to the registry guy, he was quite clueless saying something about car proof.
Do I just take the VIN or Reg# or whatever you call it, into A.M.A. or do I take it into the copshop?

I hope they got AMA in Drumheller.

The cops would likely be a pretty safe bet but I guess it all comes down to if it was reported, and to whom? I'm not sure if the mounties and the city polices would sync on that sort of thing...

Just go down to any registry office with a VIN number, and if its been reported stolen it show up as soon as they punch in the VIN.  It will make no difference where it was reported stolen, any where in Canada it will say so.  I'm not to sure about the US thou.  As well with the VIN number it will tell you what make and year the trailer it is, as reported by the original owner on there screen.  Sometimes they will let you look at it.  Without a VIN number its more of a hassle, you have to contact Insurance corporation of Canada or someother, and they will come and inspect the trailer to make sure that its not stolen and whatnot, also no written off parts and if they are happy with it they will issue a new VIN for the trailer.  Goes for homebuilt trailers and cars you just have to pay the appropriate fee.  Hope it helps.

Sbawnessy Registry agents know nothing.
AMA agents know nothing.
RC's know nothing, call lady had to take 10 minutes to get cpic answer.
Its like a bicycle I guess.

Its already bought, got registry slip but # is a little shady.

Anyone know how to hook up jeep wires to trailer. Got the diode thing. Copied junk yards, no good. Diode was behind panel in yard. Plus buddy said it worked on his, but who knows. I just got a feeling.

Does it ground thru the ball or the wiring(white wire usually). Some trailers ground thru the ball and if there is paint/rust inside the receiver it doesn't work so good.

Buy a tester or use a multimeter to test the trailer light plug on the jeep so you know which one is messed up, the trailer or the Jeep.

Was a grounding issue on the light itself, along with the junk yard diode didnt work. $50 Reese from Crappy Tire.
Shes working good now.

1st time hauling a trailer, was nervous bringing it home from drum for 2hrs. overheated a bit. flew 2 ft off the tracks in shawnessy.

I am gutting the 13' trailer. Plans are to put in a king size bed, keep the sink/stove, and install a tv on other end where the custom shower/potty is. The king size bed will be in 2 or 3 peices. Foam. Futton style, custom made of course. Shower is a drain in lino, tarp curtain for city living. Outdoor shower for camping. Bucket potty is garbage bag lined, throw in garbage after every use. Would be nice to raise the roof a foot, but thats major work.
