I have a 98 cherokee witha 242 transfer case, i noticed today it stated leaking, When i looked to see where it was coming
from, it was a small hole on the left side of the shift linkage. Almost looks like there should be a plug or cap there or something.
Is anyone familiar with this? i can post a pic if need be
Thanks guys! :)

Just to the left of the black tab there is a hole to access a roll pin for disassemble. It should have a rubber plug in it. You could try a glob RTV sealant but I'm not sure it would stay.

Yes unfortunatly it did not last long. Its a 242 that was swapped into my ZJ but I tried to reuse the the 249 shift gate and linkages. I didn't get it setup quite right and ended stripping out some syncros and ended up with no 4wd in low range. >:(
Swapped in a 231 instead but its not all shiny.....
