Hey Guys
When we went out on the open run on March 13th I had a friend tag along with me. He has always been really big into muscle cars but was instantly hooked with 4X4's after that day. Ever since he has been looking everywhere for a Jeep to buy. He found one he has to build but has some questions I dont know. We will do everything ourselves but I had a few questions.
Can someone give me a ball park price at how much it would cost to do a 2" lift on a 93 Jeep Cherokee.
If I stay around 2" will I have to do a SYE or how big a lift can I do before I need to do the SYE?
What size tires would you recomend with a 2" lift?
Can anyone recomend a good lift for a 93 Cherokee?

I'm guessing you are meaning the downsized Cherokee aka the XJ and not the Grand Cherokee(ZJ)?
A 2" lift on an XJ would allow you to comfortably run a 30" tire. If you cut into the fenders you could do 31s but wouldn't flex much.
Typically any XJ is fine with 3" of lift without needing any attention to the rear driveshaft. I personally have run 8" of lift with no SYE eliminator. Correct pinion adjustment goes a long way and the long driveshaft on the XJs is more forgiving than on a TJ.
2" spacers would work for the front, rear could be(in order of best to worst), new leaf packs(the ones on a '92 are probably shot anyway, an AAL, longer shackles, spacer block. Typically spacer blocks on an XJ with stock leafs cause massive spring wrap and should be avoided or kept to a minum(.5"). Stock shocks would be fine for 2". This could probably be done for under $250 depending on what you do with the rear springs.
I would recommend a 3" or 4" lift for wheeling. This will allow you to run 31" tires and will flex well.
Don't forget to budget for tow hooks if the XJ doesn't come with them. The unibody "frame" on an XJ isn't strong enough to bolt a tow hook directly to it. A reinforcement bracket system of some kind MUST be used. A used factory system came be had from $50-$100.

Are you looking to cut fenders?
I am running a '91 cherokee with a 5'' lift and a transfercase drop instead of a SYE, and I have little to no vibrations.
You mat as well go with a 3'' lift instead of 2'', being as you can buy lift coils lift leafs and lower control arms for about $700 right off quadratec.
31's seem to fit good on a 3'' or 33's with some fender trimming.
How much money is your friend looking to spend, because when you have tires off you may find bad U-joints, hub assemblies etc.

I think we can grab this Jeep for 200 bones. It will be strictly for the trails and not for city driving so I am sure cutting the fenders out will be fine with him.
Not sure how much he wants to spend but wants to do lockers and all that fun stuff so I am sure he won't mind spending a few extra bucks to bring it up the requirements.
