Title: Rubi Lockers
Post by: stroker sahara on March 31, 2010, 12:47:09 AM
Has anyone done much with these. I am in the process of building my YJ which I paln to use an Isuzu D44 with Rubi 4.10's and Rubi locker. I have done some reading as we were having some difficulty with shims, and some say that you can't install a Rubi locker in a non-Rubi housing, and some say that there are minor mods to be made. Any thoughts out there?

dpends on gears i think. if i recall you may need a spacer for the ring gear to work right in the non-rubi 44. or get a thick ring gear. might have to google this one or look on pirate.
Bill (bnine) may know the trick.

I already have the Rubi 4.10's for the locker. I believe the problem is the amount of space in the housing where the bearings sit. IIRC the Rubi D44 is wider, thus requiring thicker spacers. I called Chrysler and asked for price and availability for a Rubi D44 shim kit, and was told they could bring one in from the States for $660. I said "Pardon?" I later confirmed that the kit was a complete set of shims to build any possible combination, a kit that a dealership may purchase to do more than one build. I am planning a trip to the Gear Centre on Saturday to see if they can set me up with some shims that will work.

I also read that I will have to machine the surface of the bearing caps 0.100" where the head of the bolt rests to compensate for the acuator that bolts on there, otherwise th acuator won't line up and function properly.

Once (If) I am successful, I will post the necessary info incase others may need it.
