Title: Would the 88 XJ have the c clips in the rear diff?

Would the 88 XJ have the c clips in the rear 35 diff?

It shouldn't, believe they went to C clips in 91?  My '89 doesn't have C clips

nope, just 4 axle retainer bolts...just like the d44 has...take the drum off and u will see a hole in the flange to undo them!

Since there's only one hole in the flange, will you have to drill three more to get the rest of the bolts out?

Thanks for the clarification, have to do the axle seal, saw those 4 bolts inspecting the brakes.
I think that hole spins around to get at the bolts.
