Post by: Rubi03 jef on April 07, 2010, 01:01:17 AM
well i just finished installing my rear 5.13's in my Rubicon

acouple of head achs and lots of thinking and reading and trying this and trying that . but there in and tight and ride very nice . so no front drive shaft this friday then pull the front apart and do it all over again

thanks to Bnine and all his great advice on gear set up and a good starting point . lets just hope i did it all right  ???

now to figure out my speedo and how far out she is

35 inch tires and 5.13 gears with a 6 speed

That will be a nice combo. I'm running 5.38s with 37s and still have decent RPMs on the highway.

There are lots of calculators online to help you with it, but it basically just a ratio of tire size versus gear ratio

borrow a gps unit that tells you how fast you are going, saves all that tedious math work!  ;)

Choose green to stay close to factory gear ratios, yellow for better economy and highway usage and red for better off road capabilities/towing.

You've got 35" tires, you don't need to go faster than 115km/h.......

just trying to figure out if my speedo reads 100 if im doing 85 or 90 km   because there are lots of roads out here that have photo radar on them and i would like to know how fast im going befor i get a letter in the mail telling me i was going to fast

Have a buddy go ahead of you, when he hits 100 and levels out look at your speedo, and subtract what your at from 100 and your done!

I vote GPS, I tried that with a buddies truck that was stock, and his was out by about 10 km an hour at 100, so that didn't work to well.
I drove arround about 10 % under everywhere for about a month because I thought I was going faster than the speedo.
I wasnt, the previous owner installed the correction thing (electronic part in the XJ) for it and it was spot on with the GPS.

good thing I usually drive 10% faster than the speed limit.

haha

A hand held gps works best for speedo verification.

Glad to hear all your stuff is working well. Dont forget to bring my setup bearing back. ;)
