Title: Red Hot Header?
Post by: apeman on April 09, 2010, 07:36:20 PM
I just installed a new stainless exhaust manifold, Hesco head, and intake manifold.....fired her up after a week of  careful assembly, and the only issue i have so far is the exhaust mainfold is literally glowing red hot?  WTF? Is this supposed to happen on break in ?  nothing is obstructing the flow of the exhaust so i cant see it being backed up or trapping hot gasses anywhere?
Any ideas or am i just worrying over nothing?

Im going to assume its a leak in the intake manifold...i will check the bolts and re tighten if need be...seems like she is running lean.

I've only installed 1 new set of headers (on a SBC) and they glowed cherry red on the initial break-in. No problems after that.

I'd say its normal.

im stupid...forgotto pu the dummy plug back in on the intake manifold..it was sucking air , causing a lean condition...header is fine though..no problems thus far.
