Hello all I just moved to Calgary from Vancouver and went to get a out of province vehicle inspection on my 2003 jeep tj and failed because the rear wiper and defrost don't work. It came with factory soft top and I bought a hardtop and got rid of the soft top and the hardtop didnt come with the wiring. I bought the wiring harness and have tried to install it but am having troubles. I am at number 24-25 on the instructions. If anyone can help on here that would be great or if someone wants to hook the rest up for me and I could pay you that would be even better. Thanks

picture 23a shows where you find the "plugs" (look at the eye icon) which are pictured in 24 and 25
then shows the wires you need to make or tap into to then connect to 27 and 30

Yeah they said that because that the wiper and defrost are there that they must be functioning. They said if I could find a soft top and put it on that it would pass as well but since mine was fubar I just got rid of it when I got the hardtop because I never thought of this situation happening. I guess if I can't get it working then I will be on the lookout to buy a used on unless someone would be willing to lend me one for a day or two.

I got the wiper working but im not sure if the defrost is working I am going to try to see if I get a pass. Thanks for the offer Sylvrinvader if it doesn't pass tomorrow then I may take you up on it Thanks.

to check the defrost, just use a test light. If it lights up when you touch the grid, the defrost is working.

I find it odd that it failed inspection. Rear Defrost and wiper are not mandatory safety items to the best of my knowledge. Some vehicles still don't come with them. I guess that because they are there, the mechanic figures cover their butt and they have to work. I wonder what would happen if you borrowed a soft top, got it inspected, passed, then put the hard top on ;) Mine came with both, either should be legit for inspection.
Let us know. It sounds like an inexperienced inspector. Be sure if you are paying any fees they give you a refund.

I got it working and have booked a recheck for monday. it seems one of the connections that I had I didn't push it in far enough to make contact. Rich99 what do you mean if I am paying any fees? like fees to recheck after I have fixed all the problems that they found?

Frenchy, you are so right... I had the inspection done on my YJ (no hardtop nor softtop) and they didn`t mention a thing about it!

my CJ passed the OOP with straight A's with no top of any sort...
