I was wondering does anyone know of a overland / off road race that covers several KM of trail in Western Canada or USA. I know there is cercal track and rock crawling and the High Riders but I am thinking of more like Camel trophy, Out Back challenge, the original G4 challenges ( not the newer yuppie ones). stuff the low buck guy can enter. This something I would be interested in competing in but my Google searches have come up with nothing.

"Low buck" and "offroad racing" ;D You're going to need more then Google to help you on that search.
The safety requirements alone cost more then most built XJ's ;)
Have you looked into SCORR or KORR B.C ? Not cheap, but racing...
Also, tough truck, I know there is at least 3 events most years (around Calgary). They're always a good time if you're low buck kinda guy, safety rules are pretty tame. Not long distance, but still fun.
Offroad expo is another competition, but not long distance... Still pretty fun!
Cross over into the states and your options open right up! as does your wallet :(

I couldn't think of the name of the race when first posting, but I've now found it.
Appears to be a good introduction into offroad racing. PM GIS, think he ran this race last year.

One more comment... After chasing a race team in Mexico a couple months ago, I can tell you the race truck itself is not the biggest cost item. Prep, chase, and maintenance & Repair after the fact are huge if you want to keep going.

I'm not sure if it still goes on, but a guy that used to work for me said around Drumheller they have a racewhen the river is starting to melt. There was 2WD and 4WD catagories. And it was supposed to be quite the shat show. He said it still goes but with vehicles racing and plowing into each other and into holes in the ice I'm sure there would be fluids being lost into the water so I'm assuming that it would be shut down due to environmental contamination concerns.

That race is not normally made public info.

Ya I know you need lots of $ to do the high seed races.
I have family in England that dose "off road racing" but top speed is about 20 KM/H and there are more obstacles you have to cross. Tech is relay tame and for prizes most of the time it is bragging rights. thy are set up more for the weekend warrior kind of thing. that is what I was looking for but as I figured there is nothing here.

Wild West 100 is a PERFECT intro....100 miles, in 7km loops. I saw everything from $50k racers, to $500 cherokee's :)

the latest fourwheeler magazine had a great article about a competition in washington state. it used a similar format to the TSD rally's and added a more off-road truck appeal to it.
its called, Trailready Team Trophy Challenge. 24 hour endurance trek. from reading the article it sounded pretty good.

hmmm i,ve got good memerys of racing in Columbus Montana. Do not think that is what you are looking for. There are offroad cross country races in Kamloops ? The montana fourwheel drive association has short course racing pretty much every week end somewhere in Montana.
