Title: 2003 jeep tj tranny noise?
Post by: GreenMachine on May 03, 2010, 05:24:36 PM
I just installed I new cold air, throttle body and spacer,

I was taking my buddy out for a spin, we did a burn out and ever since until about 50 kph it makes a sound like there is loose bolts in the transmission,

When we got home, I got under it and tried to feel how tight the drive shaft was, it wiggles a little, and makes the same loose bolt sound,

Any ideas?

Any ideas?

Dude it's a jeep, not a civic  :D

I might know someone who did the same thing recently and busted an axle shaft in his mighty D35 ;D

Probably a u-joint in your case.

One quick way to isolate if it is the DS or not would be to disconnect/remove the rear shaft, and take it foe a quick hop around the block in 4wd (using front only) you may need to plug the shaft hole on the transfer case to prevent fluid loss, I have not done this on a TJ so I can not confirm if that is the case on your jeep or not.

It's probably an NV3550.
These are noisy transmissions.
Do some research on JU.
