coolant and water! antifreeze help to keep the water from freezing but it also raises the boiling point of water so that the water in your block does not boil then build up pressure which opens the psv on your radiator cap releasing all your coolant. it also has anti corosion chemicals in it so that the water does not corrode your block. go get your self a coolant tester from napa for $5 and make sure you have the proper mixture, usually about 50/50.

But....... pure water does absorb/release heat better than most other liquids out there.... just food for thought. 50/50 is a good ratio.

redline water wetter works good at keeping the engine cooler, but only use as an additive to your existing 50/50 mix.  Also, only use distilled water...You can get 4l of Distilled water at Shoppers for like 3$.  Redline water wetter is available at canadian tire.

Beer works in a pinch.... but the smell from the cleanout isn't very nice.

Anitfreeze also contains anti-rust properties. Putting straight water in to get you home is ok but over the long term will cause internal rust problems.
