im trying to find a new diff for my 98 XJ will one from a grande Cherokee work?
-
yes for the front
no for the rear
just saw you meant rear
-
Will i need the hole axle or can i just take the gears?
-
To clarify... it will work but you'll need to weld spring perches on so its not bolt in.
I wouldn't recommend swaping used gears from one axle to another. Used gears or new.. you still need to setup them up and since thats 80% of the cost and effort... why not just get new.
-
or grab an intact xj diff from pick n pull for less than $100
-
Thanks all. fiend ive been trying i can never find one in the right year.
-
doesn't have to be the right year. there might be things to look for to ensure the same gear ratio and axle disconnect or not.. but almost all are the same
-
Front or rear dude?
Thanks all. fiend ive been trying i can never find one in the right year.
for the rear
Take the hole axle. It's simpler. rear from a 97 to 99... You'll have the the 29 spline Chrysler 8.25 in the rear... make sure you take it from an XJ that has the same tranny then yours (auto or Manual).. they have different gear ratio. Look for the diff tag
that way it will be all bolt on.
Grand C. have coils in the rear...

I have a rear diff. Complete from drum to drum with E-brake cables. 3.55 gears I think. Was told it had 135k when pulled
$50 From a 96
