Any stockers want to hit Mclean Creek sometime?
It's lonely wheeling alone :(

I got a hitch with a hook and always on the prowl at the junk yard for better tires. I got streeties on now and pondering chains to get through the hairy holes I saw this weekend.
In the next 2 to 3 weeks, will be heading out again for a few days of roughing it.

Please do NOT run chains in the summer. You will tear the ever-living snot out of the trails, and they will do even worse things to your bodywork, brake lines, and electrical if they are not tight enough or a link breaks. If you run chains on the dry-ish section of trail between mud holes, you will also cause a lot of extra wear on your diff and drivetrain.
With respect to wheeling, chains are appropriate for winter use on icy trails.
A used set of MT's can probably be had in stock-ish XJ sizes for pennies on the dollar compared to new...and they may end up being cheaper than chains anyways.
Any chance that you're driving a white 4 door XJ?

that should work. what size tires are you looking for you might be in luck

That's Just plain ignorant! PLease don't do that... Buy a winch man! If you can't afford a winch; get a buddy to pull you out. If you need someone to wheel with; come with us. We'll show you how she goes! please again don't run chains in the summer.
You'll mess the trail and you'll bust some crap b/c you'll have too much traction.
Thanks for explaining Todd

if you want to get into this sport your first purchase should be a set of decent tires. do NOT run chains.
if you can't afford a decent set of tires then perhaps you should reconsider wheeling until the funds allow for the neccessary parts to properly run a trail. wheeling cost money; its a fact of life.
you can have fun in a stock jeep with good tires. i'd start there :)

I just said I was pondering using chains, now I know.

Hey dude, you could easly run some 31's on a stock jeep and if your not afraid to pull out the die grinder you could always go bigger, I ran 33's cut out on a spacer lift. I think they run for a couple hundread bucks shipped... you should have a problem finding a cheap set of 31's I may have a buddy thats looking to get rid of some 30's too.. Good luck! ;D
