Hey all,
Don't know about your rigs, but the stormtrooper got some slight hail damage on the hood from that freak storm today - just in time for the show and shine. It faired out much better than my tin-can Acura though - THAT looks like a golf ball.
Just wondering if any of you have any recommendations on where to go for hail damage/bodywork. We'll see how much I care about it after I chat with my insurance co.
Thanks in advance.

The car got hit really bad. Not a body panel spared. Now has a three foot crack in the windshied that was not there before. Any advice on where to take it ?

I am the owner/operator Of Dentique Paintless Dent Repair, I work mostly in the south Calgary, Okotoks, High River area. If you would like an estimate, let me know and I may be able to give you both a quote if they can be at the same place at the same time.
We guarantee our workmanship for the lifetime you own your vehicle. If you want to claim the repairs through insurance, they are covered as long as you have comprehensive/spec perils/Sec C coverage, aka, fire & theft. I can even make arrangements to bill your insurance company directly. In some cases, insurance companies may waive the deductible if the vehicle is repaired via paintless dent repair.
For all CJA members that do have hail damage and their insurance company doesn't waive the deductible, we will pay it for you, up t0 $250 per claim.
Give me a call if you have any questions,
403-454-3368 - Mike

my truck got hammered.
my wife's skyline got hammered but not as deeply wounded as the truck.
my travel trailer got hammered too.
i have comprehensive insurance that will cover it.
Toyman,
if i get a body shop to fix it, they will have to repaint the entire vehicle and this is a GOOD thing. As insurance is paying for it and i will now lose my multi car discount, would it not be better to go through a body shop so it does get repainted?
or am i missing something?
Thanks.

Repainting is not always the best option. A factory paint finish cannot (or is rarely ever) duplicated by a body shop. When a vehicle is painted, it is also coated and most cases completely soaked in anti corrosion chemicals in a 2 or 3 stage process. The vehicle is then primed and painted in a controlled environment and heat levels that ensure the best adhesion possible.
In order for a body shop to replicate a factory finish, the car would have to be completely disassembled and stripped right to the bare metal, recoated with the multi stage anti corrosion chemicals, then primed and painted and the paint would be baked on a temperature which would melt all of the plastic and rubber in the vehicle. Insurance companies wouldn't pay for all of this labour. Plus, if only certain panels are painted, you would probably notice a difference in both colour and texture of the paint. Plus it will not be as damage resistant as the factory finish. If the paint process is not applied properly, you will have corrosion problems in the future. Getting a vehicle painted will take 3 weeks, paintess dent repair can take 2-4 days.
I'm not bashing body shops by any means, but a good paint job is hard to find. Your insurance company will have a number of body shops that they deal with which will offer guarantees on workmanship, so you will always have piece of mind there. The damage on the west side of the city was quite severe and the damage might not be repairable via paintless dent repair, repainting may be your only option.
I hope this makes sense, PM or call if you have any questions, but this should all be pretty straight forward, but keep in mind, the body shops are going to be booking pretty far ahead now if you delay on your claim.

Thanks. That makes sense.

depending on your coverage,
You may be able to take a payout on having it repainted, then turn around have it fixed by Toyman, probably save some $$$, show the proper documents to your insurance company showing it has been repaired, and still have full coverage...

That is also an option but what is interesting is if you choose a payout, they will remove hailstorm damage from your policy.

True. But if the repairs are completed, bring the vehicle(s) back to the broker to show that the repairs were completed and they will add the hail coverage back on.

i will have the truck down south in my clinic tomorrow. Do you do drive by estimates?

I can. I'll stop by tomorrow sometime to see you and give you an estimate. I don't always do this, but I'll be in town anyway and can stop by to take a look at the truck, probably in the AM.

Sounds good. I just did a hail repair on an Element 2 weeks ago, so I think I can remember how it snaps shut, er, goes back together ;)

Hey Toyman,
Can you work your magic on chrome bumpers? I have heard that if you "work" chrome too much it can crack...
