Title: 4.10 gear swap
Post by: WagoneerXJ on February 16, 2006, 11:39:19 AM
Ok I've got a set of 4.10's from an 87 YJ D30. Would they swap into a 98 XJ D30? Thanx.

YJ dana 30's are high pinion with reverse rotation gears, any '98 dana 30 will be low pinion with standard rotaion gears.

This is not good news....I'm seriously considering buying Dave's(Brokenaxle) 98 XJ. His front D30 still has to be regeared, and of course I thought I had the right ones. Guess not. What's a new set plus install, gonna cost me in Calgary?

I guess Dave never got around to it. I was planning on using the 4.10's I had, but they're no good to me for the 98. CRAP. Know anyone in town that can install, that won't charge me $90/hr plus?

for all those that still care.  the TJ and only the TJ have the low pinion d30.  everything else - including the CHEROKEE has the hp d30.

Wrong. My '95 ZJ has a low pinion dana 30 front. It was my understanding that the newer XJ's had the LP dana 30 also. Guess I was wrong on that one.

You are correct the newer XJ also used the LP30.

Yup, I saw a 2000 XJ with the HP d30 in it the other day. I do know that some do have the LP d30 though...I've seen it first hand.
