ok so heres the short story
friend of mine has a JK on 35's and well he was wheeling and suddenly he hears a noise
so he stops noise goes away he drives noise comes back
he calls me up .. i go look at it and well i pull the front cover off and he exploded the carrier and the spider gears are just a mess
so question now is
is a dana 30 a dana 30 meaning dana 30 from a jk the same as any other dana 30 from a tj / xj / mj / zj
if so does anyone have one laying around for cheap
carrier and spider gears
ring gear and pinion gear seem to be fine just need the carrier and the spider gears
thanks

I don't know that a 30 is a 30 is a 30.
I think that the JK Dana 30 has a couple things that might be different - ABS tone rings? A different (encapsulated) unit bearing? Then again, you're only looking for the carrier and the spider gears, so you might be okay.
I'm not saying that you can't find a way to make a take-off work, just suggesting that it might be a bit more difficult than putting a TJ axle on an XJ.
Here's one other thing...he's already proven that he can do some pretty good damage to the Dana 30 on his 35's - maybe it's time to get a 44 under there? You can buy Dana44's that are bolt-on for a JK. Currie makes some VERY nice stuff - and they adress the biggest issue with the stock front JK Dana 44, which is the relatively small diameter tubes and the weak C's. I'd say look for a JK Dana 44 take-off, but nobody around here seems to be upgrading their JK front axles.

i agree on that .. only problem is that its a lease and it goes back in a few months so hes just looking to put in a new carrier and remove the lift and back she goes and then he's prbably getting a rubicon
i know the jk has the abs and all other stuff evening being a bit wider .. but i dont know if the carrrier is differnet and thats what i need to find out

I still have my complete carrier from my dana 30, its out of a 92 xj. you can have them for free so if they dont work your out nothing.

It depends on the carrier break Jeff, but I have a lot of d30 carriers. Probably a dozen or so 355 an under, and a couple 373 and up.
-
he says he has 4.10's in it
i thought the carrier and spider gears are all the same isnt it the ring gear and pinion where your reduction is
his ring gear is ok . and isnt chipped at all
-
if he has 4.10"s mine will not work for you, the carriers are offset to accept the bigger ring gear with a 4.10. my spiders might still work but not sure.
-
oh ok .. well thats shity now i have to find something thats near imposible
any one got a dana 30 carrier that will accept 4.10 gears with spider gears in it as well
thanks

why wouldn't it be covered under warranty? oh wait lift, and 35s on a stock D30......
looks like he's gonna learn a lesson the hard way...........
maybe you should just have him call stan at northridge or something Jeff, just get the new part and install em. it'll probalby be much cheaper than the 3k the dealership will cost him........
-
i got my d30 4.10 carrier from stan for $90!
-
awesome .. ill give him a call
-
called stan .. hes hooking me up with a carrier tomorrow thats right on the day that they are closed :)
now i just need to confirm that the spider gears from any dana 30 carrier will work with this 4.10 set up
-
mine did when i went up to 4.10
