Title: Weird vibrations
Post by: jeepgrl on August 10, 2010, 12:50:55 PM
This past week I have some weird vibration in my JK, but the really weird part is that it's only when I'm idling or at low speeds, and it's really intermittent.  Anything above 60 km/hr and it goes away.  I thought it might be good old Mclean mud, but I just spent $20 hosing it all down, belly and all... Any thoughts?

Trans mount, motor mount, rough idle, bad sensor, etc etc

Start with those.

Thanks... the other thought is that I have some mud still stuck in the fan... I nailed it down last night to that it vibrates when the fan kicks in, and stops when the fan stops.  It would also explain why it stops at higher speeds, too, cuz the fan wouldn't be on.  If it isn't the fan, I'll look into the other stuff.

if you were in any deep mud / water ,   a fan blade may have snapped off  .    they shake real good if that happens.

Another trip to the car wash... lots more mud.  I gave the fan a good soaking and a big chunk of mud came off.  No more vibrations!!  (Cheap fix, thank god)

I wouldn't say that mud is the root of all evils, but it's responsible for a lot of Jeep issues.

Time spent with a wash gun is time well spent.

Costco recently had a Karcher 3000 psi gas powered  hand washer (most carwashes you go to can get around 1800 psi) with multiple nozzles on for 298 last month or so. It has easily paid for itself already :). I use it tons for my jeep and a lot of other things. Something to consider, as long as you don't blast out the grease from all of your links here and there

I love playing in the mud and getting dirty though... but not like the creepy redneck mudbather we saw (pics?).  That was just gross. (shudder...)

just park you jeep on the front lawn and run the sprinkler underneith it for a few hours.  go have a beer or two on the patio, come back, move jeep ;)
this COULD work on the driveway, although results may vary

Hey, maybe I can park it in Rubiclone's cul-de-sac and run the sprinkler underneath it... her neighbor LOVES us Jeepers...   8)
