Called Fountain Tire in High River and they want $1700 for 5, which is just plain hwy robbery ($340 per tire). I thought I might get a better price by going through a smaller dealer such as the one in High River. Wrong!
Canadian Tire can order them in for me at $280 per tire which is better but still not great, and frankly, I really don't want to buy my tires through them.
I'm not in a rush to get these, so I can wait if anybody knows of any great deals on the horizon.
Any suggestions on where else to inquire?

I just picked up some duratracs from Fountain tire. I was surprised how negotiable their price was . You should be able to get 20% off or so. The nice thing about fountain tire is that there are tons of them in Canada, and the tires include lifetime balancing, alignment, and tire warranty so if you are on the road and have a problem, you can just take it to the closest Fountain tire and they will hook you up. Just a thought.

sounds weird but try a dealership. at my dealer our parts guys will bring tires in and as long as they make some money on them they will bring them in. may have to pay to have them mounted and balanced. warranty could be purchased from fountain after. just a thought.

Which Fountain Tire did you go to? Last time I tried to buy tires from Fountain Tire (their mtr's they wouldn't budge on the price... so I said to hell with them an bought BFG MT's at Costco). I think it was the Fountain Tire on Blackfoot trail.

I went to the Sunridge one and ended up getting five 275/70/18s mounted and balanced including tax for 1580. I was just chatting with the sales guy and told him I'd take them if he could make it under $1600 and he did. He didn't play any games, and just did it. I was surprised.

oh yeah, and the original price was a little over 1800 (sucks having to pay a premium for 18s)

Next time around check Tire Pirates... I got an amazing deal on my wheels/tires. Ask for Tyler.

Hey Mike,
Try a few different ones, try Fountain Tire in Okotoks. I'll call the guy I bought mine from in Lethbridge and see what he says.
