Title: Soldering Ball Valves
Post by: Tagg on August 17, 2010, 09:05:10 PM
I'm putting two 1/2" ball valves in copper piping at home and wonder if there are any tricks to keep from melting the ball seat.
Does the valve have to come apart?

nope... use a wet rag around the valve body... aim the torch towards the copper pipe, but keeping some of the flame on the (I assume) brass. Don't forget to flux the inside of the valve, and the copper pipe. Drop me a PM if you need a hand with this.
What are you soldering valves into?

I'm completely redoing the bathroom and I wanted the full flow of water to go to the shower / tub.

PEX is easier, but if you already have the valves then you might as well use them :D

Thanks.  Wet rag worked. Both valves installed OK.  Water back on.
I must remember not to solder with my arm under the joint!!
