Title: Lost key - '07 Wrangler
Post by: Ormrod on August 23, 2010, 10:55:48 AM
Hey guys,

I was out on my motorcycle the other day and I think my Jeep keys fell out of my pocket.  Now I have a dilemma... I do have a spare key, but I don't want to run with just one key in case I happen to lose this one.

I called around to the dealerships and to have a new key (with the lock/unlock/panic transmitter) made is around $200.

Does anyone know of any cheaper options to get a backup key made?

Any help is appreciated!

I saw a sign at Canadian Tire in Beacon Hill that they were doing these keys now.  I think the cost was $75.  Good luck.

You can get the blanks from ebay, then take it down to a locksmith and he can cut it but you will have to take it in to the dealer to have the key programed.  You need 2 keys to program a new one or a starscan tool.  If you order keys order at least 2 so you can program the new blank later on.  But for now it looks like you are stuck with the dealer.
