Title: Ahhhh Mudd Fawker,..
Post by: JENSSEN on September 30, 2010, 09:23:07 PM
I have a 3rd Jeep again! The 98 Grand left several months ago and well it felt just empty here,... So somebody thought it would be just a spiffy idea to post up a $100.00 MJ in the for sale section from a ad they found on Kijiji,..

THANKS A LOT ,...   >:( ::)  :-[

On a whim I bought this rusty bucket of bolts..

So Tuesday night this rusty dented , theft recovered, 2.5 turned 4.0 2wd MJ now resides at my house,...

My curiosity got the better of me and I went to work,.. column  is Fubar'd,.. but I managed to figure out how it is to start the rust bucket,.. drained 9L of black stuff some oil some fuel from the crank case, filled the oil back up and liberally loaded the cylinders with bolt penetrating oil , cleaned the plugs and crossed my fingers,..

A few tense minutes of smelling stank 2 year old fuel and the buzz of boost mode on the battery charger a faint chug emerged from the all but lost MJ,... A plume of brown and black smoke engulfed the alley and it was alive!!

Once the smoke cleared (no joke; anyone in Dover will no need to worry about mosquitos for some time) and a few rotton vacume lines were repaired the purr or a Renix 4.0 and a small header leak sang in the early night sky,..

So now the Dump Jumper has emerged,... We shall see where it's new lease on life takes it,..

So now what to do,... I may just save it,...

So so far to fix it I am gonna need to fix or replace:

-Steering Column
-doors
-box
-Fuel Rail and FPR
-rust repair on the cab and floors
-possibly convert it to 4wd
-3' Coils?
and that's just the initial list so hopefully some juicy deals on parts come up,...

I went to see that one too, the rear brake line is cracked btw.

Pretty rough, but glad someone grabbed it!

What trans is in that bad boy? If it's the AW4 I can't see swapping in 4WD being all that difficult with the availability of XJ parts at the boneyard. I'd bet you could do it for under $500 if you tried. Yeah, I know, $500 into a $100 truck and all that. 4DR Xj front doors will bolt up AFAIK.

Whooooo-hooooo

After 4hrs of messing with the MJ it idles and revs like a dream, fixed all the exhaust leaks , fixed the vacuum lines, and a metric sh*t tonne of other things! This little MJ is really responding to TLC!!!!

Now I really need a GM column, doors (manual) to get started in the next steps!!!

What in gods name did I get myself into??!!!

Sounds good so far, but imo chop the top off, ditch the doors, and throw a roll cage on there :P

Then you can cross the doors off the list.

^^

Ha! Jens knows all too well about the 2nd Gen. Jeep Targa Freedom concept vehicle.

I vote for a pre-runner style MJ or build it for Tuff Truck comps Jens. You've got a bunch of turbos kicking around that you can "MaCgyver" onto this 4 banger.
