Cheap tube and fin tranny coolers can be picked up from Craptire or Wallmart. Lots of different GVW ratings to choose from and under $100. Not cheap enough for your stingy-arse? Go to PNP and grab one from the myriad of 3/4 to 1 ton trucks. Most of the grills are busted and you will have a lot of room to remove them.  Should be a whopping $15 there.

HTH

If you plan to wheel it grab two coolers and use one for the Power Steering system.

Shavings or "silt"? You will always have some silt on the magnet (thats why it is there).

Shaving = bad
silt = normal

Shavings does not mean it had a heating problem. lots of other reasons a tranny will fail.

I think you should Sell it, you have had it for way too long. Time for a new project.

also for the summmer time get a fan for the cooler that you can turn on and off, in winter you wont need it in summer it's a good idea. which tranny does the ZJ have? the 46RE?

nope, just a lil' 4L so its a 42re.  it does have one, i can see it plumbed in. i didn't think it had one (hence it'd get hot)

i haven't really driven it much except back from strathmore.  i'm gonna throw insurance on it tomorrow and take it for a good cruise down to okotoks or something.  put my concerns to rest ;)
