Just wondering if anyone out there has a set of 7/8"-18 Right and Left hand thread taps that I would be able to borrow? I'm getting closer to getting my D44 setup and will need to make up some steering parts. These will be done with a lathe and a very competent operator, I just hate the thought of needing to go and drop the money needed....especially for the left hand tap.
Also, does anyone have a tapered reamer (1 1/2" per ft) that I would be able to borrow to flip the steering to on top of the knuckle, as well as ream out one of the steering links. I'd love to setup hi-steer, but don't have the money for that yet...

Try Bnine, he has a good supply of steering fab stuff. Even if you offer to pay for him to do it, you'd still come out ahead vs. buying the tools

A lathe and competant operator ? , cuts threads without taps or dies
the reamer is from snap on #r121

You're right....a competent operator can cut threads on a lathe...but only up to a certain depth, from that point on a tap is needed...
And I won't buy cutters from snap-on...sorry, they make great tools but I've had some bad experiences. I have some contacts with some tool distributors and am waiting on costs, but will also check with Bnine....

I can sell you the inserts, and we can chase them with my taps, but I cant loan my taps out.
For the reamer talk to your freind, he should be able to get you a discount one for about 40 bucks. Its good enough for the two cuts you need in order to flip a tie rod.
