6" should work based on the info you provide us ::)
Seriously though, it would be good to know the tire size and width you plan to use

6 inches seems to be way to much
i was thinking somewhere around 4.5 should work should it

Wow...someone missed the sarcasm!
Seriously, what size tires???

Free rubber - must be nice. 17" rim.. that's certainly not stock. I guess they want tire size to know width and the backspacing required.
While we are on the subject, I'm interested in similar info - where to get cheap rims for the second set of tires.. factory sizing for an '04 Rubi ie: 16"x8" 5 on 4.5" with 5" backspacing. I have the tires in the garage, just need the rims! Thanks.
