Title: Which winter tires???
Post by: BJCJ7 on November 30, 2010, 02:25:57 PM
So...I need to get some winter tires before I have to go through another storm with the stock JK rubi tires!!

I've been looking around and have two options I'm looking at. I do a lot of snowboarding in the winter so I put on a lot of highway km's in the winter. I likely won't do much wheeling in the winter but it'd be nice to have the option.
So I've been looking at these:

Yokohama Geolander I/T G072 in 265/70/17 (I think these would be better for the road) &
Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac in 265/70/17 (Better for off-road but wonder about durability for lots of hwy km's)

They both have the mountain snowflake rating but the goodyears aren't listed under their winter tire section of the website???
For those of you who have the duratracs (that aren't studded) , can you comment on the performance on icy roads? Any experience with either of these tires would be great!

Thanks in advance for the help

Sipe your BFG MT's and you'll do fine. I ran two winters with mine on.

I don't know what the geolandars are like - I've never owned any Yokohamas. The Duratracs are solid performers in the winter - and they are pinned for studs. IF you buy them as a dedicated winter tire and you stud them...they perform exceptionally well for snow and ice. I'm running a set of the Duratrac 35's on my Jeep right now as winter tires, and they're great for winter on-road and off-road.

I had the BFG MT's on mine, switched them out for some BFG AT's.  No problems at all.
