looking for a rough idea if the jeep will be repaired and what it might cost to have done, I have to wait till shops open to have an estimate done so I am seeing if I need to shop for a new vehicle.
and don't laugh at the wheels, they are crappy winter rims that work ok, look really bad on the jeep, but they were free
the guy in front stopped, waiting for people to turn into a drive way at co-op in taradale, so I stopped behind him, but the hummer either didn't pay attention and didn't even try to stop while going about 30, or just couldn't slow down in time because the roads were a little slick(but I were able to stop ok because I didn't blow all my money on an h2 and didn't get winter tires(don't want to start a debate here, but it may have helped if he was paying attention but couldn't stop.)) when he got out he said, why didn't he turn and did he have a signal on? to which I replied because he was not turning, he was stopping because the people in front of him stopped waiting for the other people to turn in, like you were supposed to do.
I got rear ended by an h2(see my hitch mark, the guy cant even open his hood)

and got pushed into an altima

and this is what the ham in the middle looks like

the rear leaf spring bracket got twisted up with the hitch and the shackle now rests on the metal parts where it should not

Start shopping. XJs don't like to be rear ended. My friend got rear ended in her XJ and the damage was a lot less than that and it got written off.
BTW you should go get your neck anjd back checked out if its sore at ALL! You'd be surprised what a bump like that can do to your neck muscles.
-
Too bad about the accident. At first I was impressed at damage your bumper inflicted on the car. Then I remembered I had an Altima once, they are made out of tin foil.
-
and I paid the registration about one hour before this too, I know I can get credit it I take the plate in or transfer it to another vehicle, but still, what are the odds
-
That sux. I live a block from there and some people drive nuts in that block. I think I've seen that H2 before, if it's the one I think it is, they shouldn't have a license (if they do) from what I've seen them do.
Gee, if there was a brick wall there or a stopped fire truck, would he have driven into it? Lots of RCMP cars get rear-ended with the people saying "I didn't see it! The stupid things are lit up like an Xmas tree, either they are blind or weren't even looking down the road.
It's called "driving without due care and attention" or at least "following too closely" and it is definitely *NOT* the fault of the vehicle in front since it doesn't sound like you jumped in front of him and hit the brakes, not to mention that people are *always* stopping or going slow to pull into the gas station or store parking lot, so he should have been *expecting* it.
-
Get all the receipts and get them built into the quote when its totaled, they might hack off like 20% for depreciation though. Go get checked out for sure, did you get all the guy's info?
-
sure did, and he does have a license, but I think they hand them out like cookies at x-mas, anyone can get it

x2 on all accounts;
sucks though, and i hate to be negative, but they won't be fixing that jeep. infact one look and they'll just write it off instantly.
IMO i'd start pulling all the goodies off it you want to keep for the next XJ you buy............
-
Good luck with everything... looks good on the Hummer... Glad nobody was hurt. Like said before... take your goodies off... once the insurance company gets it they won't let you touch it.
-
ya, I am going to see what they say when I actually get to talk with an adjuster on tuesday when they are open again, I called the insurance company and they only had a really quick report to fill out, and said to get a rental and call on tuesday.
I am wanting an adjuster to hopefully come and have a look at it while it is here and see what they will give me for it, they may not pay for the aftermarket stuff(maybe), but I will see, and then find out what the buyback would be and if I think I can make the money selling the stuff off, I will take most of the stuff off and sell it that way, and basically sell the shell with the drive train in it if I can for a few bucks as it ran really well since I had done all the work to it.
I am sure fug could use another xj to pull parts from. ;)
I don't think I will be getting another XJ this time, I have been thinking about a newer tacoma(double cab, long box trd sport I think)
will likely leave it stock for a while as I want the vehicle to be a little more family friendly(getting in the jeep is a bit of a pain without getting really dirty).
-
To bad it wasnt Dom and you werent riding with him. Take more then a hummer to crumple the back end of that XJ !!!
Glad your ok bud. I agree that it looks like a write off. I dont think you have to worry about stripping it. They only keep 20% of the estimated value in order for you to keep the jeep. Just let the adjuster do his thing, then elect to keep it for your parts truck.
-
I believe you can also choose to buy it back (at least from what I've heard regarding cars in BC).
Not sure how they estimate the value, but they just take whatever the value of the heep is from the payout.
Depending on the damage you can probably part out whatever you don't need to make that value back. In fact, didn't I just read a post about someone needing an engine? If yours survived, there you go!
-
ya the engine, tranny, tcase, most all mechanical stuff is good, rad was not even touched at all, arb bumper beats altima trunk for sure.
still waiting to have an appraiser see it, I think I plan to call the insurance company again tomorrow and see what is up, I guess they are very busy so it is hard to get people out because they are so busy this time of year.
-
I was looking at the front bumper yesterday and outside of the 2 damaged lights and broken marker light, I don't think there is even any damage to the bumper, it looks good anyway!!
-
well, the jeep is going to be written off, I don't know what they are going to want to pay me for it yet, but as long as the buy back is not too high, I will buy it back and part it out.
likely strip off the .......
arb bumper and 9500 lb winch,
warn rocker guards,
the roof basket,
a set of 4 31x10.5r15 kumho winters on older ranger rims,
set of 5 31x10.5r15 mud terrains(4 hankook dynapro mt's and one interco trxus mt) on 15x8 black steel rims(4 inch offset I think),
currie heavy duty steering,
jks quick disconnects,
RE track bar,
maybe the lift(about a 3.5-4 inch, has RE 3.5 spring packs, some coil spacers in the front(and I think the springs may have a little lift in them too)),
a RE hack n tap sye with cv drive shaft(has one new u-joint in it),
an alpine cd/mp3 player with some speakers from a tj with the ipod add on box(not new, but does work),
tcase lowering spacers
a thick rubber mat from the back of a truck cut to fit the floor in the back and the rear seat back with the hardware I used to secure it down,
maybe the cb for real cheap(ant. not included(still borrowing a friends)),
rear non cv drive shaft with heavy duty u-joints(I think it will work well with a d35 rear as the 8.25 was a little long for it I think)
maybe even my brand new steering wheel cover with real simulated carbon fiber!!!!!
yes this is starting to sound like a possible for sale list, which will be put into the for sale forum if I do get buy it back for not too much.
I do have someone interested in the jeep for parts allready, so I will first talk with him and see what he is wanting/willing to buy, and likely pull some other small things
prices will come if I buy it back. I will post in the for sale forum with prices as soon as I find out what is happening
