I've had one.  ;D Pretty sad eh? I'm even a HD mechanic. However I've had lots of injuries that SHOULD have had stitches but never bothered(actually I REALLY hate needles).

Then about 2 months ago I stabbed myself in the hand with a screwdriver, real deep. Normally I won't have bothered but I hit the nerve and everything went numb and it was on the job so the boss sent me to the Dr. She recommended stitching it since it was in the crease of my palm and would be prone to ripping back open every time I flexed my hand. Since I was there anyway I sucked it up and let her stab me with a needle. I got one stitch.  :P

I tell you though I won't hesitate to get stitches again if I think I need it. That wound healed up 10X faster than any other cut I've had.

I'm in the same boat as Clay...never gotten them, but the odd time that I figured I probably should have. I split my index finger open from on top of the nail to the side of the second joint using a new razor knife...called the emergency room and asked how long of a wait they were expecting. After needing to explain to the nurse exactly what I had done, she said I should come in, but it was going to be almost 3-4 hours. Pfftt...nothing some isopropyl alcholol couldn't clean up, and some paper towels and electrical tape could stop the bleeding on.

The other time was when I was at the airport...stood up too soon from under the wing of a 737 and smashed my head into one of the flaps that had relaxed and dropped down...you get a funny look from guests on the plane while walking it away from the terminal with blood pouring down your face.... :o Washed it off using the emergency shower, and just kept some good pressure on it until it stopped bleeding, a good 15-20 minutes (gotta love head wounds).

Come on Jenssen...there has to be a story behind you asking this... ;)

I've had my few stitches.

First time, when I was in the 3rd grade, I was getting ready for bed, opened the mirror cabinet, left it open, washed my face and forgot I left it opened, came up and smashed my head on the corner of the mirror, shattering it. Had a pretty good gash in my head. Got a few stitches there.

The second time was for surgery, got my appendix removed, obviously I got stitched up.

Those were the only times. Hopefully never again.

I had around 20 in the bottom of my foot. I stepped on a open canned ham tin. Then I had over 50 in my arm, Cut that one to the bone on a tree branch and had to have surgery to remove the broken off branch piece in my arm. I have had some good ones on my hands but they glue them because of my trade and I only am on light duties for one of two shifts. Mandatory gloves are coming at our shop very shortly because of all the small cut incidents we have.

The last time I got stitches I swore I would never go back for small cut stitches.  Dr. did a terrible job, I'm doing my own stitches next time.

At one time I had 50+ stitches in my cheek, and It's kind of shaped like a hand written Z which works since my name starts with one.  Other then that I've had quite a few in a couple other places.

Double hernia... 12 on each side (6 inside, 6 outside). No, Noel, I do not have pictures of it.
Then, of course the stitches from my wisdom teeth.
I like crazy glue, or electrical tape now.

I've had one cut that definitely should have had stitches (sliced the web of my left palm open) but didn't.

I'm with Trevor on the crazy glue/electrical tape. When I was blasting, I would spend weeks at a time with electrical tape wrapping parts of my fingers.

i was watching the Canada Russia series in 72. i was peddling the stationary bike with my hand. Hand slipped, middle finger went for a ride around the big sprocket. 2/3's of my finger was cut off. That was MANY stitches.

Was in a bar bathroom when a guy tapped me on the back. i turned and he sucker punched me. His ring cut me open pretty good under the left eye. That took 8 stitches.

Was water skiing and fell. i held onto the rope as i was under water. When i resurfaced, the ski was planing across the lake where my face stopped it. Under my right eye took 8 deep and 14 surface.

I'm not very impressed with glue. My daughter wacked her eye socket on the car door when she was 4yrs old. Dr used glue to close it and she has a nasty scar there now. I wish they would have stitched it.

I don't know how old she is now but pending age government and some insurance companies will pay to that surgically repaired because it's on her face. Something to look into.
I was told by my doctor that they would repair the scar on my arm became it was visible with some t-shirts on.

well over 50.... lost count. spent alot of years as hd mechanic and to date, fingers are pretty tough, and in most cases dont no I've been nicked til i see a trail of blood. Took a jackall in the chin, split my lip to nose in a fight, upper eyebrow in a fight (should be a better fighter)  3 fingers  reattached from a skate cut in hockey. in general i suck. i needed four today from a cut but glued the cut close. keep glue in the fridge and get it done before i get dirt in

Slim, just thinking and I may be way off but I 'm going to suggest you avoid horses.  Seriously... I just don't think that it's a good idea for you  ;)

I had that when I was a kid, I thought it was a good idea to play with a fire poker while trying(I repeat trying) to run down a set of stairs, I looked like a pirate for a while, which was kinda cool as a kid, but painfull

some in my forehead from running into a wall as a child too

some on my upper lip from flipping back on a small plastic horse with wheels and getting the head in the lip

back of the head from falling off the back of the couch and hitting my head on the fireplace mantle

no broken bones yet(knocks on wood)

about 45 scars from various things that did not need stitches

wow I sucked as  a child I guess

7 deep 10 on top. Left forearm, still have a nasty nasty scar.

Rode my Harley way to quick around a corner and hit some gravel and went down. Picked it back up rode to a buddys (who wasnt even home) then rode to the hospital.

It took 2 hours to pick out all the gravel and cut off all the "dead" skin.

...and by Harley I mean Yamaha Razz 50 (when I was 14)

Radical.

8 stiches on my left wrist from an ice climbing incident (crossing tools looks cool, but sux bad whenyou inadvertantly pull the higher placed axe)

1 stitch in my left eye after surgery to remove a thorn tip I broke off in my eye wile tree planting in northern Ontario (had to watch the whole procedure from close up, a bizarre and disturbing experience)

6 stiches from various orthopedic scopes/surgeries of both knees

36 staples from a total hip replacement

32 staples froma total knee replacement (full prosthetics on both meaning 5 signifigant chunks of stainless steel and 3 plastic pieces) so free massages at the airport everytime I fly

six stitches inside my mouth frome eating a ski on backcountry straps (I guess theres a reason no one uses those anymore LOL) also took out three teeth and fractured my maxilla (face bone) on that one. (and as a long term result, two more teeth have had to be removed and two more have broken off as a result)

I used to use superglue on a lot of minor cuts both wrenching and in the backcountry but converted to something called steri strips years ago when I was a firefighter - one of the best products ever - every guy here should have them in their first aid kit.  works as well as superglue but is alot easier to remove if its found a stich or two is required, not to mention dealing with an infection under superglued skin would be unpleasant to say the least.

I think I must be around 11 or 12 bones too over the years LOL

I'll bite
top to bottom

7 or so on my upper lip -fell on coffee table
14 left shoulder got cut with a knife
9 left wrist got cut on the upper dies of a cnc press
5 right thumb cut it on glass
how ever many to attach 4 fingers 2/3rds of the way back on now I'm the proud owner of messed nerves and tendons
24 on right heel long story short cut it on broken tile.
I'm probably missing a lot more

These are great! I've got a full trauma bag that I use when doing standby medic stuff and I've probably used them more than bandaids. Little harder to find in normal stores, but easy with an account at Vereburn or other supplier. For those that aren't familiar, they're like butterfly bandages but are straight, can be cut to size, and I find they hold better too.

How is it, that the guy that started this thread hasn't shared any of his "stitches stories", or why this thread was started?
Title: Re: Stitches?

im amazed at some of the stories, cant imagine getting fingers etc worked on/re-attached...atleast when they put your face back together you cant see whats happening.  Tablesaws arent forgiving?    6" makita grinders dont care what they cut thru either apparently...

How is it, that the guy that started this thread hasn't shared any of his "stitches stories", or why this thread was started?

It started because I started to add up how many I had to date and if I was out of the "Norm" to date I have had:

56 Face/Scalp
5 Scalp
13 right index finger
5 right foot
15 stomach area
4 Right Palm

Don't think I forgot any,...
