I've got myself an XJ Dana 44 that was from a 4.0 5spd jeep. Pretty sure it's got 3.07's in it. Assuming that it does, would i need a new carrier to go with 4.10's?
-
yep..... 3.73 and up I beleive.
-
did i read somewhere that you can use that 307 carrier with thicker gears or am i sniffing Dom's crack again?
or is it just for rubi 44's?
-
You could use a thick gear set, or rubicon gear set (which is thick). Rubicon lockers are 373 and down offset, but the gears are 410. So, to compensate for the difference, the factory installed thick gear sets into rubi 44's.
Only difference is that the rubi gear uses a larger bolt, meaning a standard carrier would need to have the bolt holes drilled from 3/8 - 7/16 in order to use a rubi gear set.
I just wrote this last week for Aron. Pay attention Al ;)

That's what I thought. Can you buy a new carrier? or is it time to hit the junkyards? Would TJ D44 parts work, or Rubicon? I don't want a locker, just the 4.10's.
-
You can get a non loaded carrier from northridge for about 80 bucks.
-
Awesome. Much cheaper than I thought. Makes goin to a junkyard not even worth my time! Thanks Bnine!
-
I couldn't find any carriers on their site???
-
Just call stan. I've gotten dozens of them off Northridge over the years. Gears are kind of my thing.

I just happen to have a spare set of rubicon d44 4.10 gears you can have..

So that's all there is to it, to re-use my carrier? Sounds too simple!
