Ok...So I went to see Alien and Aliens last night. (Awesome on the big screen!!!!) ;D When I came out my battery was dead. Thought I'd left my lights on so no biggy... went to boost it this afternoon, and it did not want to start unless i gave it some gas. Started, I let off the throttle and it died. So I started it again, nd it died as soon as I came off the Gas again >:(. Got it home by 2 footing it. It will stays running as long as I keep giving it gas, as SOON as I come off it dies, and I mean AS SOON AS I COME OFF. No hesitation at all. Tach just drops like a stone. All my fuses are good, and it looks like all my grounds are fine, no obviously loose cables or lines...
Help?!?!?
Right for those who don't know...'98 ZJ 5.2

is your battery still dead ?
-
Nope...Battery will hold a charge and start the jeep now without any help, but still dies as soon as i stop giving it gas

I had a 97 Dakota with the 5.2 do the same thing. It was the Battery. Just cause it starts doesnt mean the battery isnt toast.

ya same on a 99 dakota i had. i think its because all the sensors and computer need proper voltage
-
ok...i will price out a new battery then...thx
-
could be a computer relearn problem. I have seen this in the past after a dead battery the computer needs to relearn all the sensors so it wont idle . we use to have to keep it running for about 10 min for it to be able to idle. this maybe the problem or not ;)

i drove it home from Chinook, 10 - 15 min. had to 2 foot it to keep it going at stop lights and such but...got it on a trickle charger and will test battery tomorrow and we will see what we see. Jay do u sell yellow tops, and if so how much?

If you ever have suspicion something wrong with your battery altenator or starter you can take them out of vehicle and canadian tire well test them for free so well a few other auto stores.

Mike,
Same thing has happened to my Libby when I've drained the battery. Got it boosted by had to run it for about a hour at higher revs to keep the alternator churning so I could start it again.
Solution was a new battery.

Had a similar problem with a 5.2 ZJ when the coil was starting to go.
-
any codes?
if not coil/battery are good places to start. i'd give the AIC and TPS a good cleaning/replace too. had that problem as well. AIC was quite dirty

Mine too. My 01 XJ did exactly what your describing until i replaced the idle air control module. It was black... My problem solved after that. Easy to check too, heres a picture.

My TJ does the same thing. Did it this morning actually, after I left my lights on all night while watching the Superbowl.
