Title: What are your JK issues
Post by: Saraha4X4 on February 13, 2011, 06:54:25 AM
Just thought I would start a thread to see what issues you guys have had with your JK's. I seem to be getting alot of warranty work this month. First were the transmission cooler lines were leaking. Few weeks later had a problem with the coolant temp sensor and oil pump they ended up replacing the timing cover, oil pump, temp sensor, thermostat and gasket. A week later it got towed in again and found that the torque converter bolts had somehow came undone and did lots of damage ie: flex plate, torque converter, transmission case, starter, crank sensor.............So my question what problems if any have you had with your JK???????

Hmmm

My door is dented

My Fender is broken

My sway bar link is bent

My steering wheel is off centered

Other than that she has been solid, no issues at all but it is early yet.

Probably why you are having issues with your ESP.   :P

Other than a bent drag link bar caused from driver impatience :o, it has been rock solid. I have tweaked the drag link bar twice and should probably replace it one of these days. For now, I'm happy taking the 5 min with the turnbuckle and a 15mm wrench to recentre the steering wheel.

oh yeah, the ESP light causes me no grief when the steering wheel is centered :)

I've had no warranty related issues.

Replaced the engine once when a large hole developed... :o
Other then that I haven't had any other issues with it.

I have a clutch that squeak...there's a TSB out for it as a sommon issue with JK's, but the dealer refused to look at it. I'll just run it until it starts causing real issues, and then replace it with a better quality clutch. It can't be that big an issue, since I've already got 85K on the Jeep.

I did have an issue with my steering position sensor and wireless control module, but that was covered under warranty. Airdrie Dodge handled the whole thing well - courteous and professional.

Other than that, my problems are as follows:

My rear bumper is dented (trail damage), my left rear fender is loose (trail damage), my passenger door is creased (trail damage), my license plat holder is crooked (trail damage), and my left upped ball joint is going...which isn't that bad given that I've got 85K on it.

As far as work on your JK goes, if they're covering it all under warranty and not arguing about it, count yourself lucky. It's inconvenient to have your Jeep in the shop, but if you can show the service manager that you've had your new vehicle in his shop for an excessive number of days in a short period of time, you might be able to convince him that he should help you out with the cost of a rental.

Mines gone in for most recently
1 leaking rad ( smell of antifreeze and a little puddle in the fresh snow) replaced
2 fender tsb (fixed)
3  slow throtle response  (no fix still there)
 and then befor
4 poor idle/backfiring/high idle (would back fire and then idle at 2000 rpm all the time) replaced spark plugs

This is on my 09 with 45000 km on it.  I wait till I have a small list before I will take it in, and it only goes in for warinity work.  All the maintenance is being done by me.

I use a flashpaq to cure my throttle response.

the gfs 2011 jk unlimited with the auto pisses me off.  the torque converter likes to lock up in OD all the time.  problem is it doens't lock;  next thing you know, you're on mcleod doing 65km/h and its locked in at 1100 rpm...........  it doesn't like to lock/unlock to keep rpm around 2k where it'd be nice........... instead it'll stay locked that low, and when you increase throttle (to unlock tc) it just completely downshifts;  really gets on my nerves.  obvciously there is no dealership fix; Jeep designed it like this i believe.  gotta live with it.

when/if i get one,  it'll be the 6spd.

The flashpaq can improve the performance of the autos a fair bit actually, or so I've heard on other forums anyways.

Definitely not a warranty thing.  I think it's just how the computer is setup for some stupid reason.  I have a 2 door Rubicon 6 speed and my fiancĂ©e has a 4 door auto so I've experienced it a lot, it's just how they are setup for some reason.  The guys on the american sites bitch about it a lot.
