Title: WagoneerXJ's 98 XJ
Post by: WagoneerXJ on February 27, 2011, 11:40:12 AM
So my 98 XJ DD has been long overdue for some upgrades. Finally got a chance to do everything at once. Here's the list:
Bushwacker flat flares (part #1092207)
285/75/16 Toyo MT's X5
03 Rubicon MOAB rims X5
Redo the rear "bastard" leaf pack. I did it once, but they were way too soft and have negtative arch now
ARB Bullbar (Thanks Steve!)
130W Aircraft landing lights (Legal...probly not!)

Yesterday I got started on the bushwackers. No pics of the old flares, or takin them off. Because everyone knows what that looks like! There is lots of measuring, marking, drilling and "trimming" for these Bushwackers, but probably not as much for the other style Bushwackers. Here's some progress pics from day 1:

Just got the bumper off, for the ARB later on. Has to be removed anyways for the flare install.

Flare installed, that's with 3" of lift and a 225/75/15 winter tire. Yes the rims are green, yes they are going away.

and my favorite

I'll be updating this thread the best I can, with pics. Can't wait for the finished product! After these mods I have to decide if I want to install my D30 4.10's and 4.10 geared D44 in the rear.

Me too! This is the 3rd XJ I've had that combo on. I don't put too many miles on, and those 10 ply tires last a LONG time on a light XJ.

no prob, glad it will be put to use, hope you don't have to use it, but if you happen to hit a deer, hope it holds up better!

No we did not. While it was sitting, it was broken into twice, both door locks were mangled. Owner decided to go through insurance and it's probly gonna be written off. Reason is, he would get more money that way :(

Sorta good news is that something big has come up in my life, and I need to liquidate some stuff....Dad will be getting my 99 XJ 2dr that was rolled gently, and is pretty much back together.

At least if I do, that deer will NOT be walkin away. Takin it home for the mother in law's freezer!

haha, beats having to get out and shoot one, just get some rope and tie it back onto the front bumper and your good to go, it would likely have dents that match the shape of it anyway. ;D

i you havent put the bumper on yet, a hand winch (come along??) works really well to get the bumper in the right spot while you get all the bolts in, just wrap arround the rafters and the bumper, if you hang it right it stays level too. easy enough to do yourself that way.

Haha yea thanks. I'm gonna use my engine hoist. Pretty easy to control. This bastard is heavy!

its not light, but movable with one person, and ya the engine hoist would work well, I just didn't have one to use

i thought those rubicon wheels didnt fit on stock XJs, wrong bolt pattern or something?

All jeeps post CJ and pre JK share the same 5x4.5 bolt pattern... so wheels from YJ/TJ/XJ/ZJ all interchange

No sir, those are off an 03 Rubicon. Best looking stock wheel, in my opinion :)

Finally got some more work done. Flares are still not done 100%, but all the hard work is done. Just little crap now. ARB bumper and lights are next :)

Yea it fits no problem. Sits maybe a half inch low under the driver's signal light.....but in all honesty it DID go right through the back of an Altima and survived!
