Title: Stupid Cold
Post by: vantagetes on March 02, 2011, 12:15:21 PM
Here's an interesting one for you. Started my jeep yesterday and the wipers didn't work. Drove back to my house (checking radomly) and checked the fuse which was good. Tried the switch again and they worked fine. Later last night I went to pick up the woman from work, worked fine. Started jeep this morning...do not work.

Only thing I can figure is a bad connection somewhere and in the cold the metal is contracting. Only other thing I can guess is a bunch of snow fell down the cabin air intake, melted and has now frozen the wiper linkage in place, but I wiggled the wiper arms a bit to try to break it up and didn't seem to do anything.

Edit: posting about it makes me feel better about not braving the -21 to actually go out and look at it. I have moved "rent place with heated garage" up on my to do list.

I feel your pain man! Although mine work, but squeal like a group of baby pigs being slaughtered! The noise is blood curdling  :-\.  I haven't investigated the issue yet, but I have just forgone using them before the Jeep warms up.

My jeep does the squeal too. So does my friends. I ignore it.

Your wipers squeal?

My blower motor squeals when it's really cold out and I start the engine, but if I turn it off then on again it fixes the problem instantly.

I was going to fix a broken vacum hose on my evap system, I turn the heat on in my garage and the fan motor for my heater burns out..... Where do you get fan motors?...its frickin' too cold for this crap

Every once and a while the wipers make an ungodly squeal the first couple of uses, used to scare the crap out of me.

To fix the squeal, all you have to do is pull the wiper gearbox apart and grease the gears, 1/2 hour tops.

Try Canadian Tire.... or I could get you one, but that will take a day.

I guess this is a warning to lock our jeeps and set our alarms? ;)

Bacon grease and/or belt dressing is rumored to help as well.

I agree, scares the crap out of me when I forget they do that. Getting in the jeep in the morning half asleep(not a morning person), turn it on, hit the wipers, "EEEEEEEEEEEK", makes me jump every time.

Im thinking of recording the sound and patenting a new alarm clock. That crap'll wake you up better than coffee.

That would be one of those ring tones that you would switch your friends phone to as a prank! An evil prank that is!
