Title: TJ transfercase skid plate mounting holes question
Post by: fug on March 22, 2006, 09:06:11 AM
It's my understanding that in 03 the mounting holes for the TJ TC case skid plate were relocated.  Which means if you're buying a Rubicon Express LA skid plate the 97-02 version is slightly different than the 03+ version.

Has anyone every modified the older style to fit on a newer TJ?  The long arm kit I'm buying is installed on 98 so it's got the older style skid plate and I'm just wondering how difficult it is to modify to fit on an 04.

Thanks
Fug

I imagine its just a bunch of drilling.

Mount all the arms up to the axle

Push the plate up

Mount the arms on it

Bolt the t-case up

mark where the plate holes are on the frame.

Drop it all

Measure mark distance from stock holes

Drill the plate to match, using the marked holes to stock holes center to center distance.

Something along those lines should work.

Or you can drill the frame to match the old style skid. Drill right through, use a spreader plate on top of the frame and attach everything with about 4" long bolts.

One of those should do the trick.
