Title: Dana 44 Axle sleeves
Post by: w squared on April 02, 2011, 12:25:11 PM
There's been lots of talk about the RCV shafts latley...but that only adresses one of the "strength" issues with the stock JK Dana 44 front axle. The tubes are not as strong as they could (should?) be for running 35's or larger tires.

I've seen external partial sleeves, trusses, and internal sleeves. I like the idea of the internal sleeves, since all the stock control arm mounts, spring perches, and shock mounts can stay where they are. I've read about these sleeves on other sites, but I wouldn't mind getting some input from the guys here that have broken enough parts to have learned things first hand.

Thoughts?

Personally can't claim to know which one would be better, but being a pipefitter, I can tell you the larger the diameter a pipe is the more rigidity it would have.

I would tend to think with having the same amount of material as an inner sleeve, an outer  sleeve would have more rigidity, thus more strength.
