2003 TJ sport
So my sub dosnt work. and it hasnt for a while. AND i'm sick of it. Im not good with electrical stuff, so im not sure if its blown or there is some kind of connection issue. The reason why i suspect its not blown is that there is no rattle or anything. just no sound. A year or so ago i slammed my door and a nice bass note rumbled through. Since then slamming the door harder and harder has given no results.
Thoughts? I know these subs are generally trash as Ive read many threads about their low quality but i feel like if it was blown there would be a rattle.
Again. I suck at speakers and what not so any input is appreciated.

Sounds like a loose connection.. If you slammed your door and you got sound out of it, it would seem that a connection was made somewhere. If the connection is loose, or the sub rattled it off, that would seem to be more likely at this point. A blown sub will rattle and fart, and of course eventually no sound will come out of it, but at this point, Id check for a loose connection.

Great thanks for the advice. I'll giver a shot soon.
anyone know how to check if a sub is dead....ie once i rip it out of the console is there a simple method to check it

just pull out another speaker while your at it and attach the wires from it to the sub. Just don't use tweeters, and turn down all the high and the base all the way up. It will make a bit of noise but it just wont have to much power. There is really no way to tell if the sub is blown, unless its all torn up and broken.

In the glovebox there is a fuse that should say amplifier or sub, check that too.
You CAN check a speaker when not hooked up using an ohmmeter. Just take your probes to the terminals of the speaker while unhooked and it should read 8 ohms for the factory sub. Move the cone in and out just to make sure the dinky little tinsel wires arent broken or intermittent, you can just solder the broken lead if thats the case :)
Most car speakers are 4 ohms but Jeep just had to be different for the sub.

Using a nine volt battery and touching the leads to the terminal quickly should get the sub to pulse.
Even if the sub was blown it usually makes noise just distorted. I'll put money it a bad wire or connection somewhere.

Great thanks for the tips. I'll see if I have time tomoro to rip it out.
I know its not a fuse though, I checked that one ;)
