Title: Mirrors...srorriM
Post by: M T on May 09, 2011, 11:55:08 PM
I need some mirrors for the summer so I can take my doors off my TJ.  Can anyone help me out with some or provide some ideas?  Thanks guys.

I bought a kit last year from National that relocated the stock door mirrors to the window brackets.  Worked quite well.

That would work if I could find a reasonable set of mirrors.  I am not too hot on taking my mirrors off my door.

I've done this for 6 years now and never had a problem from the coppers. Go to Canadian Tire and get a set of bike mirrors. $4.99 each! When you remove the door they slip in the hindge hole. They come with a nut already so just adjust and tightem! Works for me!!

These will also work on the JK to but the pass side is hard to see. Hinges are lower.

I wrapped mine with Hockey tape to keep them a little stiller, they were wiggling around a bit just in the hole as is.

I've drove mine without any mirrors for the last three summers and I've been pulled over twice for speeding and never had a cop say anything about not having mirrors yet. but maybe I've just been lucky haha

I thought that as long as you have A mirror ( for example the rear view ) you are legal to ride along whichever way you choose

Just been lucky :p  (or maybe they just don't care)

I looked into it after my side mirror was knocked off my old car while parallel parked, and you're required by law to have at least 2 mirrors on the vehicle.  I was still okay, having the rear view + the other side mirror.  (I think) you'd also be good with just two side mirrors.

Ya that works, To bad the threads did'nt go just a tad further on the arm. Then a guy could use a nut on the top and bottom of the hindge to hold it tighter. Looks good!

I was actually considering that, and I still am, I can just borrow a die from work and give it a few spins at home to thread it another inch or so.

I was thinking just enough to get the other nut that came with the mirrors and maybe a washer (nylon) would be good to have on there to. If you do it let me know how it goes. I don't have any dies but i would pick one up if I see that it works you. Let us know what size die is needed to.

Check your door switch defeat fuse today if you can...I picked up the mirrors yesterday, went home all excited to pull the doors, and discovered my wiring was tinkered with by a previous owner :(
