Hey I am looking for a classic car to restore. I was thinking about the convertable Impala, early 70's late 60's. But when I was surfing for pictures I also came up with '71 Charger Coupe, '70 Mercury Cyclone GT, '68 Ford Galaxie XL, '66 Buick Rivera, '72 Duster. My brother has a '69 Mustang Convertable completely restored 289 auto, baby blue, its a nice ride.
What early classic cars do you like to see restored?
Thank You

If I had my choice....I'd be looking for a Falcon, with an original K-code 289. 8)

I used to have a 68 Ford Falcon but with the 6. Great car...I'd go for one with a V8.

My choice is anything Chevy that will take an LT1 from an old Vet as the power plant. It has to be my favorite motor of all time. 350CI and 350HP+. I never got to have one but I did have a 350 L82 out of a 1973 Vet in an old F-body Camaro. I love the old 350s.

My advice is to look at lots and lots of cars, in magazines at show and shines etc. Then find the car that really excites you. It takes a heck of alot of time and effort and money to restore a car. Restoring a car is not a job the average back yard mechanic can do in the amount of time you see it done on TV. I know people who have taken 3 years to get a ride running and looking presentable. It will be hard to put your evenings and weekends into a project that doesn't excite you, especially after the first year.

I have to agree with the "get something that excites you" idea... another thing I would add is buy the best cleanest body you can afford. There's nothing that motivates you to keep working than going out to the garage and seeing a car that makes your heart beat a little faster. Body work is the most difficult part of any project to get right so buying a car that has the body work done is a plus. Another thing about a great looking ride is it draws attention even if its only running on 7 cylinders and the headliner is missing and the seat covers are hiding some nasty looking seats. Getting that attention is a great motivator to get finished too.
Here's my ride... '67 Cougar, 351 CJ, 4 Speed.

Interior's a little ratty and I currently have the engine out to seal up all the oil leaks and clean up of the engine compartment but even with a shabby interior and oil leaking engine it gets looks and is a blast to drive.

When it comes to a classic, you can't beat a K-Car. :)

How about a factoryspecial edition boogie van, like my 80 "Street Van" with tasteless factory stripes, and giant "StreetVan" badges on the doors, not to mention those groovy chrome wheels. These things are set for a major comeback....maybe not, but still... this thing has to be rare!

Now Im not a ford fan ( Found On Road Dead, Fix Or Repair Daily, Fu*&ed On Race Day, and my personal fav, if you do it backwards "droF". Driver Returns On Foot), But I was at the football game today, and saw three imac. 59 Ford Galaxies. Now those were probably the sexiest cars I have seen in a long time. Especially the peach color, that was the "MONEY" car. soooo MONEY!!!
