So I've been running 33" tires on stock 15x8 inch rims with 1.75" wheel spacers attached to the stock Dana 30 for about four months now. I've only been to the trails once and the rest of the time its been my DD. Within the last couple of weeks there has been a ticking noise (think metal on metal like gears in a clock) coming from the passenger side front end. Originally I only noticed it when I was turning left into my parking spot in the parkade at my condo. However, in the last couple of days the noise has become louder and I notice it on quit streets also when tunring left. Doesn't seem to be a noice when turning right. I do realize that this could be anything, however with the noise getting worse and being short on time and money at the moment I was wondering if anyone could let me know the best and worst case scenario for what the problem may be.
Thanks so much
Kyle

Well, the worst case is that "Achmed the dead terrorist" has strapped a ticking time bomb to your front axle and it's going to blow up on Saturday.
No wait...the worst case scenario is that your TJ is actually a decepticon and it's going to transform and eat you on Saturday.
No wait....the worst case scenario if that your TJ is actually an XJ that somebody put round headlights on and it's about to revert to it's true form. ;D

HAHAHAHA!! THAT JUST MADE MY DAY!!! And destracted me from worrying that my wheel might fall off while going 100km/hr on Deerfoot... OH crap! That would suck and probably kill people.
So anyone got any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like an axleshaft u-joint has gone bad. Always sounds like clicking/ticking then followed by BOOM ! Look into it before it wipes out the ears on the axleshaft .
-
x2 on what Dr. Noel says. I had a click from the front end of my XJ (in its real XJ form already), and it was cured once the outboard U-Joint was replaced.
-
Take the time to upgrade those joints too. I'd also get used to changing em more often then not if you plan on keepin those wheel spacers too.
-
If it has gotten worse since you were at my place I would bet on the U-joint as well.

wheel bearing.
easy way to tell. jack the tire up, and watch as the tire comes off the ground. if there is ANY kind of movement of the tire, left to right its shot. other way to tell, jack the wheel up, grab tire at 3 oclock and 9 oclock. wiggle it. is there any play? can you hear a bit of a clunk?
last way, when you pull the hub to do your axle shaft, take the hub off and inspect it. is there any play in it when you spin it? if its good there will be no play in it what so ever.
or if its a ujoint crawl under there and grab the axleshaft; there should be no play. if there is, you have your issue.
if your really unsure you can even bring it by and we can jack it up and take a look. bring beer :)
welcome to daily driving 33s ;)

On the plus side, there's a nice set of axles waiting for you at Chanda...
