There will be a CJA sanctioned open run in Waiparous going to the falls on August 20th (Saturday), lead by JackstandJohnny and Heeps4evr. For those of you who haven't been before, this is a moderate trail, and is stocker-friendly if you've got good tires and listen to the helpful advice from experienced members.
Meet is at the gravel pit for 9:30 AM for a driver's meeting, and wheels rolling at 10 :)
Requirements:
Vehicle in good mechanical condition with no fluid leaks
MT tires in good condition
Front and rear recovery points
Full sized spare
Ample food, water, spare (warm) clothing and spare footwear for everyone in the Jeep
All non-members must sign waivers
A good attitude :)
Recomended:
CB Radio
Recovery gear (snatch strap, shackles, maybe even a winch)
Full set of hand tools for your Jeep
Extra fluids (engine oil, gear oil, tranny fluid, washer fluid)
Shovel and axe or bow saw
Attendees:
Hps4evr
JackstandJohnny
Rubicon13
whiteout + another zj (blech) and a yota ???
chupacabra?
mhernden
yellowjeep101
johnbou
delco21
jkrubi
ciamonkey
jenn1981

Sounds good! I have a check engine light which came on yesterday. Hope to get it figured out asap. If I can get it fixed, I will be there.
Jeff

I'm in :)

id really like to get to the falls. hope to meet at the gravel pit about 930am, be on trail at 10am. we will check out the bridge and decide if we can cross when we see it. easy enough to back track a little.
other then that vehicle requirements were allready mentioned. a small group of us did this trail 2 weekends ago and it
was a little slick and muddy in some sections, but we all got through fine. it should be much drier out there now.
just as a note ill be driving my truck and have invited some personal friends in none-jeep products. so we will get to see some variety on the trail.
most important is a good attitude for the day. rain or shine we go.
pm me, johnny jackstand or w squared if you have any questions.

eric actually means we are running Killer Cutline.
requirements are 35s and lockers front and rear. or i've heard you can come down the cutline successfully on a BMX bike..........
-
So,
Does this mean we need 35s and lockers? Or is the original list ok (i.e. stock unlimited Rubicon in good shape)? I really want to come out but, don't want to drive 90 minutes to find out I can't make the run.
Thanks,
Jeff

Just ignore everything that the silly man wearing the YJ as a tutu says. Actually to be on the safe side, you should bring a pair of dirty socks to stuff in Johnny's mouth during the run. ;D
You're good to go with the list in the first post. No minimum tire size, just please make sure that you do meet the listed requirements - it's no fun to get turned away after driving a long way to a run.
-
Hows the trail width in these areas? I dont mind a few scratches on the new paint but i dont want it full of rocky mountain pin striping just yet. :)
-
Most of that area is relatively open, but there will probably be a few spots that will make you cringe if you're not a fan of pinstripes.
Here's the thing....us trying to tell you if you'll end up with too many pinstripes is tough - we don't know how many pinstripes you're okay with, and we don't know what your level of driving skill is.
-
and some of us view rocky mountain pin stiping as a badge of honor! ;)
-
Todd enjoy your hot stuffy cubicle on saturday.
i'll be riding topless and doorless ;) i think its gonna be around 25 degrees too. ahh perfect. maybe i'll go for a dip in the creek too.
Rubicon13 no you don't need 35s.... and we sure aren't running killer cutline. just jokes for some of us that will remember back in the day.
for those of you in stock JKs/rigs that are really pretty, this is your disclaimer right now:
BODY DAMAGE CAN HAPPEN AT ANY POINT ON A TRAIL. PLEASE DO NOT ASSUME WE/THE CLUB OR ANYONE ELSE WILL BE ABLE TO KEEP YOUR BRAND NEW JEEP SCRATCH/DENT FREE. it happens, sometimes quite unexpectedly, or sometimes you get stuck and it happens.
THAT said, i'm not trying to discourage anyone from coming or having a good time. however, anything can happen in the back country. better to know beforehand, than to find out when your JKs rear quarterpanel is sitting engulfed in an embankment!
-
Thanks for the comments guys. Sounds fair to me (I already have matching dimples on my stock front bumper, my tailpipe, scratches on my rock sliders, and lots of pinstripes to show for the runs I have already been on with CJA people).

Hot stuffy cubicle? I suppose....but that's still a better option than watching you go swimming :o
Enjoy the run! I'll be there if I can, but I'm not holding my breath :(
-
Thanks for the info. First of all, I dont know why my avatar is showing johnbou instead of WK2008 and of course the scratches will come, I just wasnt sure if it was typical open trails or tight trails where lots of scratches will happen.
John

This was me. Its now showing WK2008 again so no worries.

Im in too, possibly with another grand and a 4runner

Sounds like we are shaping up for a good run here with a number of different types of rigs.
Looking forward to meeting new people, reacquanting with some I have already met, and learning more from a group of people I have come to respect and appreciate in a short period of time.
See you all soon.
Jeff
P.S.
I have been to the gravel pit once. If memory serves me right, it is just off of the main road going into the Waiparous trails (so you have to go right by it). Is this corrrect?
Thanks,
Jeff
-
Yes - the gravel pit is on the East side of highway 40, South of where it meets the Camp Chamisol road.
-
Going to try to make it, I've had good fun over in those parts last few times ive been

No my air intake is stock. Do you think this is an issue? I thought this was a pretty easy run?
Thanks Johnny
-
yes it is a tame run in regards to rocks and things of that matter. however there are three river crossings, one of which is fairly deep, and there will be a bit of mud as well..
-
to sum up waiperous for all the people that have never been out there .. its wide enough for a H! to get through the narrowest place .. everywhere else you can fit at lease 2 jeeps wide .. the trails them self can be driven with a honda civic . theres 2 hills that may give that civic a litttle hard time and a few river crossings that may be a bit deep for a civic . but no problems for any stock jeep ive even seen a 4 door 8 foot box chevy out at the falls on 30 inch tires . so theres very little to worry about

i suppose I was assuming that Johnny knew that I am on an OME lift and 32s so I am about 4 inches over stock. I am looking forward to this one for sure.
-
I may have to gas up the commander and come out for a little fun
Hopefully I can keep up with all the JK's
-
How muddy is muddy out there at this time of the year?

so its almost as tall as a minivan/JK? ;) :P :P :P :P
we'll see ya saturday. i might be at peters tonight though; depending if i leave work before 6 or not! i'd love to see your WK. i love those things!
-
That suck yet again I am working and can't get it off. :'( maybe next time I wouldn't be working.
Anton

It's looking like I might be able to come on out. I've been trying for all the other open runs, but they always fall on my days on. Damn work

PASSENGER SEAT AVAILABLE
Hey eveyone, I have a passenger seat available for this run if anyone wants to claim it. No gas or any other contribution necessary. Just come along for the ride. If you are experienced, I may ask you for some advice on the trickier parts...
Oh, and make sure your medical is all paid-up. Just kidding.
Let me know,
Jeff

;) You know I love you guys (I have never met you but you should know i do haha!) Just bought a CB and 4ft antenna any suggestions on where to mount both? Im thinking antenna on the rear tire carrier, only thing is I'm worried about underground parking and parking under my canopy. I know it will be to tall but will it flex that much? Anyways I would love suggestions! ;D

i only put the whip on when i get to the trail. it should unscrew from the mount.
easiest way if you have height problems!

Thats what I soon discovered when I started installing it haha. Would it be wise to tape that off when you don't have the antenna off? I can't imagine that gunk getting on there would be a good thing. Thanks for the suggestion!
-
Just get a quick-connect to put between the whip and the stud. As long as you make sure that the quick-connect is in place when you tune your antenna, you're good to go.
-
cool sounds good can you guys suggest where to get a tuner?

so here's the tenative plan!
there will be a few people meeting at smittys for breakfast in Cochrane, and i believe they will be heading out at 830.
we will be meeting at the Gravel Pit for 9.30 in Waiparous. its on the right hand side of the road just past the campground.
at 930 we will air down, etc and sign some waivers, and have a quick drivers meeting. at 10am we hit the trail. don't be late, we ain't waiting!
it is a good idea to gas up in Cochrane before heading out to Waiparous. that is your call though!
-
I am going to have to bail on this one as I have too many things I would like to get done around the yard this weekend. Enjoy all and be safe!!
-
I will be brewing so I am out..
Someone grab a ratchet strap for Whiteout! :D
