Other then getting a Ford 8.8 out of an Explorer for my Tj, what vehicles can you look at Crown Vics, Broncos, other? Or is it even worth it? Also if looking at an Explorer is there a particular year or model thats best?
Also where should I look for the spring purchase, shock brackets, etc?

i believe the magic years ar 1995-2001 ford explorers. these would give you 5x4.5 lug pattern, disc brakes, 31 spline shafts, and if you're lucky you may get as low as 4.10 gears and a limited slip diff. they came in rangers too but are narrower i think, search would confirm this. lincolns too with disc brakes but shafts may be different spline count and width may be off too.
as for brackets search, there are a few companies that have complete weld on kits. M.O.R.E. has a kit with e-brake cables too. there are some good aftermarket upgrades too, moser has the super 88 kit which gives you c-clip eliminaters and chromo shafts with 5x4.5 or 5x5.5 lug pattern and apparently makes the axle wider to match the proper wms-wms on a jeep.
or keep your ear to the ground and find a tj d44 that bolts in.
either way, you have options.
check G2 axles and ECGS, both supply built front and rear tj axles for decent prices.

Definitely a good read if you are considering the swap.

The ranger diffs are the same as the explorer but they came with the 28 spline shafts.

I hear that the best 8.8's are out of teal coloured Rangers. In order to get optimum freshness, they should only be removed from vehicles parked in the Southeast of Caglary, between the hours of midnight and 3 AM. ;D
