Title: good bye to a canadian hero
Post by: rocnrol on August 25, 2011, 05:08:03 PM: anyone who, not only removes a seperatist party from govt, but destroys their party statis is a canadian hero in my book. not only that, but did it with a class not seen on the hill in to long a time. i really doubt i will ever vote any other then blue, but i had a tremendous amount of respect for "smilin Jack" and was glad he was this countrys official oppisition. if the liberals ever hope to be a viable political party in this country again, they need to look to Jack for the lessens he served on how to be a true polittition.

Good riddance to his idealogical crap that would never fly if he had of been in power. Its always easy to be the 'thinker' in government stalling and stopping government from moving forward. His greatest triumph will always be clouded by his moronic decision to let a Separatist lead his party. Hero? not even close!

My comment is regarding the OP's hail to a hero commentary. Nothing more nothing less. Its Chit Chat. i guess we should just post more moronic pictures down here instead.

spiny, i don't call Jack a hero for his political stance, i agree with all you say. but he is responsible for ousting the most vile thing to have ever been allowed to happen in this great country. we are now unified, and have a govt. that is able to move forward and act.( if you don't like the direction, that perfectly fine, come out and vote in four years for change :)) so in my books, he is a hero, for that one, single, most amazing feat. i can only hope we will never see that kind of in saneness infiltrate our govt. again.

please, every one, i know politics is very personal, but dont make it an excuse to turn this into a f u argument. i wellcome anything anyone has to say, but with respect.

remember, Harpper is my man ;)

i knew you would see it differently (my post) and not lump me in as disrespecting the man that died.:)
i also appreciate why he is a hero in your eyes. He was in mine too, until he appointed the Separatist to lead the NDP. He had time to rectify that mistake and for that his hero status was removed in my mind.
Now, who really knows what took place behind the political machine curtain. Maybe Jack had no say and perhaps no knowledge of the brutal decision made?

He definitely will be forever remembered by many.
And i read your post to know your alliance with Harper before i ever replied.

I do think he is somewhat of hero and should be respected as such, no offence made to anyone. In my opinion that he was the most iconic and idealistic Canadian politicians in while, he had passion. He brought the NPD to the official opposition and has been the most charismatic leader of that party. He was the best person at the time to be the "thorn in the side" 0f the Conservative agenda, someone who could keep their capitalistic ideals at bay. I feel that Canada is worse off without him.

Unfortunately, I do not agree with the label "Hero" for this man. I am extremely greatful that his party has ousted the Liberals, but that's about it.
The NDP are the Greenpeace of politics, wanting to help everyone, not thinking about the domino consequences, or where the billions of dollars would come from.

As for 'Smilin' Jack', whose birth name is John, he is not quite as Saintly as he seems.

During the 90's, while he was a Toronto City Councillor and his wife (Olivia Chow) a School Board Trustee, the two had a combined income of over $120,000.00, yet they lived in Government subsidized Coop housing, and paid only $800/mnth. They skirted the system by applying for the subsidized housing under Olivia's mothers name.

In 1996, Jack was caught in a 'rub n tug' massage parlour, lying naked on a mattress with a young Asian women. The massage parlour was raided because of allegations that minors were working there. He had told his wife he went there to 'excercise'.

When Jack became leader of the NDP, his salary was $211425.00, and Olivias MP salary was $157731.00, a combined $369156.00.
They rented an apartment for $2000/month a few blocks away from Parliament hill. Because both are from outside the National Capital Region, they are entitled to charge for their accommodation, meals while traveling and maintaining a constituency office. Olivias expenses tallied $530,304.73 and Jacks was $628,913.68, a total of $1159218.41.

So for these reasons, I do not count Jack as a hero, just another typical politician.

To me the true Canadian "Heroes" are the 157 men and women who died over in Afghanistan serving our country. Those are heroes.
