Title: Night Wheeling- Mclean
Post by: Bragg Creek 4WD on August 30, 2011, 09:38:33 AM
If anyone wants to test their lights myself and a couple others are going out this wed( 31) night.   Where we go will be weather dependant, meaning how much it rains the next two days.   Not camping,  but may have to if necessary.

I'd be interested, whats the basic plan, how many trucks, time wise etc. I got no offroad lights, but that should just make it more fun right?

How so? Yes, things can certainly go wrong in the dark. But things can go wrong in the daylight, and that results in being out after dark, and that's why many of us put extra lights on our rigs.

Think we'll probably roll by the store around 7.   2 cherokees and a forunner with me,  would like to go from east fisher up Mclean Hill and down north side,  but there are some big holes at bottom there by store so will see how wet when out there.  There's also that one sketchy spot climbing up from the bowl in east fischer,  may be a problem have only ever gone down it myself.   Hopefully we don't have to spend night so we can hit the powderhorn for a beer afterwards.

I am well familiar with that trail, the mud holes on the back side can be pretty deep, I always used to get stuck on 33's and more recently on 35's (but you can bypass the big ones). I have no idea what size tires you guys are on though. Sounds like a really good time, that is one of my favorite trails

With the past couple day's rain, the route back out to the road form the North side of McLean ridge is going to be somewhat interesting. Especially once the mud covers your lights  :o

Should be very dark because of the cloud cover, and very wet as the rain has not let up. But I will be coming out, I'll be at the store at 7pm. I'll be in a Blue TJ on 35's with an ARB adventure light bungeed to my bull bar......

I know this isn't a sanctioned run guys...but please do two things out there:

-Be careful. Things can have a way of going wrong in a hurry at night, and in the rain. I'd hate to see things getting broken, or even worse...people.

-Be responsible. Take a look at what the trail conditions are like, and make a judgement call on whether or note you'll be causing a bunch of ruts and damage. IF you feel that's likely to happen, please tread lightly by choosing an alternate, rocky route...or rescheduling for a time that offers better conditions.

I apologize for inviting buddy there,  it's one thing to break down on trail,  but to show up with a piece of crap that won't run and has no brakes... idiot. I have no problem saying that,  funny thing is the exact... EXACT same thing happened with that guy last time but it was in a cherokee.  Sorry Jrama would've been a good trail if we made it further than 300m,  oh well next time.

Feed the Monkey!
