Title: Driveshaft ujoints on 97 xj
Post by: Dracitamo on September 09, 2011, 08:12:13 PM
Replacing my ujoints tonight on my rear driveshaft and I come to find they are two different sizes. I've called everywhere open tonight and they all say they are supposed to be the same size. Can't match part numbers. All it says is W5 on both. But here is the difference. The ujoint closest to the trans is SH07 and the one closest to the diff is SH20. They are quite obviously different in size.

97 XJ. D35 diff.

Anyone familiar with this brand? What sizes they might be or numbers they would convert to?

Edit: they both say SPR on the backside. I've tried autovalue, partsource and canadian tire. None of them could help me out.

there is about a 1/4 inch difference between the two. I think I'm just going to drive down to pats tomorrow and get him to measure them and fit me up with the proper sizes. I'll post back if they end up being the same or different. I'm pretty sure they will be different though with that much of a difference.

Edit: Took a old rusty caliper to them and they measured up as follows:

SH20 - 9.4 cm roughly 3 5/8"
SH07 - 8.2 cm roughly 3 1/4"
End caps are both the same at 1 1/8" or 1 1/16".

I know I need to buy a new caliper but you can see there is quite a difference between the two.

Weird. You have some kind of aftermarket driveshaft perhaps?

The D35 that was in my 95 YJ had a 1330 yoke, so some Jeeps had 1330 joints

I don't know if it's an aftermarket driveshaft or not. Wasn't told when I bought it. Who knows though. My jeep has a few things different with it then most. Took it out for a drive yesterday to go camping. Appears one of the clips keeping the ujoint in snapped and I'm back to replacing them. Went to open my hatch and it wouldn't open at all. Had to dig through to my tools from the front. I swear yesterday was my jeep just trying to tell me it hates me. Haha
