Title: Bike Rack
Post by: Traktor on September 19, 2011, 11:32:09 AM
I want a 4 bike rack for the YJ. Should I go with a hitch mount or spare tire mount? I already have a 2" receiver for both.
Looking for pros and cons from experience.

Thanks,
Tim

hitch mount all the way. 4 bikes stick out lots and can be quite heavy.  I've had both and I like being able to take the bike carrier away too.
You can also get better mounting system on hitch models.

Yep, hitch mount.  I made one for my wagon and it's ghetto but beefy and works awesome.  And like Kevin said, it's nice to be able to quickly remove it.

mountain or road? If it is mountain, NorthShore Racks makes great racks. SUPER solid and will fit any frame geometry and it is modular enough to clear any spare tire.

I've been running the Swagman 4 bike rack on a 2" hitch on my XJ for two years now, and would definately reccomend it.  Very tough and versitile, regardless of what type of bikes you haul.  I've used mine for everything from 16" wheeled kids bikes, to commuters, to trials bikes, to full on DH bikes.  Nice too, since the Swagman stuff comes in at about half the cost of a Thule.
